JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Mobile & Web Engineer is the driving force behind KEO Group's mobile products, building cross-platform apps with React Native on the Expo platform and shipping them to the App Store and Google Play through EAS. You will own the mobile experience end to end - UI, navigation, and state management through API integration, offline behaviour, push notifications, rich data visualizations, and EAS-powered releases - and extend the same craft to responsive web applications with React and Next.js. Working alongside back-end and platform specialists in the Enterprise Digital Solutions team, this is a role for a product-minded engineer who cares about performance, polish, security, and shipping: your apps will be used daily on construction sites and in boardrooms across an international consultancy, with opportunities to embed AI-powered experiences as the portfolio grows.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Mobile Application Development
-
Design, build, and ship cross-platform mobile applications with React Native, Expo, and TypeScript for Android and iOS - from concept and prototype through production release on Google Play and the App Store.
-
Implement clean, responsive, accessible mobile UI using modern navigation and state management patterns (React Navigation; Redux, Zustand, or React Query).
-
Build offline-first experiences - local storage, caching, background sync, and conflict handling - so apps remain useful in low-connectivity project and site environments.
-
Integrate secure authentication (OAuth 2.0 / Entra ID / MSAL), push notifications (FCM and APNs), deep linking, and device capabilities such as camera, GPS, and file handling.
-
Build rich, interactive charts, graphs, and dashboards inside mobile apps - using libraries such as Victory Native, react-native-svg, or Skia-based charting - that turn project and operational data into insight at a glance.
Web Application Development
-
Design and build modern, responsive web applications with React and Next.js - server-side rendering, routing, state management, and REST/Microsoft Graph API integration.
-
Deliver polished, accessible, high-performance web UI - responsive layouts across devices, WCAG-aware accessibility, and Core Web Vitals-conscious optimization.
Quality, Release & Operations
-
Own mobile release engineering on the Expo platform: EAS Build, EAS Submit, and EAS Update for code signing, store submissions, staged rollouts, and over-the-air updates - keeping every release smooth and predictable.
-
Instrument applications with crash reporting and analytics; profile and optimize startup time, rendering performance, memory, and battery usage.
-
Write automated tests (Jest, React Native Testing Library, Detox) and maintain strong engineering hygiene - code review, linting, and documentation - across the mobile codebase.
Integration & Collaboration
-
Consume and help shape the REST and Microsoft Graph APIs powering mobile experiences, collaborating with back-end (.NET/Azure) developers on API contracts, security, and performance.
-
Participate in business requirements analysis and process re-engineering workshops, helping stakeholders articulate problems precisely before designing solutions.
-
Ensure that Health, Safety, Sustainability, and Continual Improvement principles are embedded in all work practices.
-
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Typically, 5-8 years of professional front-end and mobile development experience, including 2+ years with React Native and at least one application shipped to production on both Google Play and the Apple App Store.
-
Fluent in the Expo ecosystem: Expo SDK and modules, EAS Build, EAS Submit, and EAS Update (over-the-air), including managing app configuration, environments, and store credentials through the Expo toolchain.
-
Strong React and TypeScript/JavaScript (ES6+) fundamentals: hooks, component patterns, state management, and rendering performance optimization.
-
Strong command of Next.js for building responsive, component-based and server-rendered web applications - routing, data fetching, and deployment-ready builds - with solid HTML5 and CSS3 for responsive design.
-
Hands-on experience integrating REST and OAuth-secured APIs from mobile clients - token lifecycles, pagination, retries, and graceful error and offline states.
-
Strong data visualization skills for mobile: building performant, interactive charts, graphs, and KPI dashboards with libraries such as Victory Native, react-native-svg, react-native-gifted-charts, or Skia-based charting.
-
Experience managing app releases end to end through EAS - signing, store submissions, staged rollouts, OTA updates - and writing automated tests (Jest, React Native Testing Library, Detox, or similar).
-
Familiarity with push notification services (FCM, APNs), analytics, and crash reporting tooling in production apps.
-
Strong grasp of secure coding and application security fundamentals - OWASP Top 10 (web and mobile), secure token and credential storage, certificate pinning awareness, input validation, and privacy-conscious data handling.
-
Proficient with Git-based source control - branching strategies, pull requests, merge conflict resolution, and disciplined code review as everyday practice.
-
Added advantage: broader CI/CD automation (Azure DevOps pipelines, Fastlane, or App Center) around the EAS workflow.
-
Added advantage: native build tooling (Xcode, Android Studio, Gradle), Expo config plugins and prebuild, and bridging native modules when the JavaScript layer is not enough.
-
Added advantage: back-end development experience with .NET / C#, Azure services (Functions, App Service, Notification Hubs), and SQL Server.
-
Added advantage: Python for scripting and automation; SharePoint or Microsoft 365 integration experience.
-
Added advantage: experience implementing AI APIs within applications - Azure OpenAI or similar - for chat, search, or intelligent in-app experiences.
-
Experience in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) or professional services sector is advantageous.
