The Marine Mechanical Fitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of mechanical systems and equipment on ships, offshore vessels, and marine structures. The role requires interpreting technical drawings, diagnosing mechanical faults, and carrying out repairs while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, dismantle, inspect, repair, and reassemble marine mechanical equipment.
- Perform maintenance on engines, pumps, compressors, valves, gearboxes, propulsion systems, and auxiliary machinery.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and specifications.
- Carry out alignment, fitting, and assembly of mechanical components.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with maintenance schedules.
- Identify mechanical faults and recommend effective repair solutions.
- Use precision measuring instruments and fitting tools accurately.
- Ensure compliance with marine safety regulations, company procedures, and quality standards.
- Work in confined spaces and onboard vessels as required.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and report completed work.
- Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, welders, and other technical personnel to complete projects on schedule.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure proper care of tools and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- ITI/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification.
- Relevant certification in mechanical fitting or marine engineering is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in marine, shipyard, offshore, or heavy industrial mechanical fitting.
- Experience working on marine engines, pumps, propulsion systems, and auxiliary machinery is preferred.
