Job Title: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Staff Nurse
Reports To: Nurse Manager / ICU Supervisor
Job Summary
An ICU Staff Nurse provides specialized nursing care to critically ill or unstable patients in the Intensive Care Unit. The nurse assesses patient conditions, administers treatments and medications, monitors life-support equipment, collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, and ensures high-quality patient care while maintaining patient safety.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care
- Assess, monitor, and document patients' physical and psychological conditions.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
- Provide direct care to critically ill patients requiring intensive monitoring.
- Administer medications, intravenous therapies, blood products, and treatments as prescribed.
- Monitor and interpret vital signs, laboratory results, and diagnostic tests.
Critical Care Management
- Operate and monitor specialized ICU equipment such as:
- Mechanical ventilators
- Cardiac monitors
- Infusion pumps
- Hemodynamic monitoring devices
- Respond promptly to emergencies, code blue situations, and patient deterioration.
- Assist with advanced life support and resuscitation procedures.
Collaboration and Communication
- Coordinate care with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate patient status and treatment plans to patients' families.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and case discussions.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records.
- Follow infection control, safety, and quality assurance protocols.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements.
Patient and Family Education
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, procedures, and discharge instructions.
- Provide emotional support during critical illness and recovery.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Critical Care Nursing certification (e.g., CCRN) preferred.
- ICU or critical care experience preferred.
