At the 15–20+ year seniority level, the position focuses on leading large-scale site execution, overseeing fabrication yards, and managing heavy-lift operations for critical industrial infrastructure.
1. Core Educational & Experience Requirements
- BTech/BE in Mechanical Engineering: Minimum 15+ years of professional experience in large-scale EPC or refinery projects, with a strong background in structural execution.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering: Minimum 20+ years of deep field-based experience in overseeing on-site structural fabrication and erection within the oil and gas sector.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Structural Erection & Management: Lead the site execution of heavy steel structures, including pipe racks, process platforms, technological structures, and modular units.
- Fabrication Yard Oversight: Supervise fabrication activities to ensure all structural components match approved engineering drawings and maintain material traceability.
- Heavy Lift & Rigging: Review and approve rigging schemes for super-heavy structural lifts, ensuring ground preparation and crane configurations are safe and efficient.
- Interface Resolution: Study equipment and structural drawings to resolve mismatches between base plates and civil foundations.
- Quality & Code Compliance: Ensure adherence to international standards such as AWS D1.1, ASTM, and relevant IS codes. Oversee QA/QC inspections, welding quality, and final stage clearances.
- Resource Planning: Manage high-volume manpower, specialized equipment, and subcontractors to meet tight project milestones during major refinery expansions or shutdowns.
3. Essential Technical Skills
- Software Proficiency: Expert use of Navisworks for 3D model reviews and clash detection, and AutoCAD for drawing verification.
- Safety Leadership: Deep knowledge of rigging safety, working at heights, and hazardous area protocols typical of active petrochemical plants.
