A Production Planning Manager plays a key role in ensuring that manufacturing or production processes run efficiently, on time, and within budget. The role sits at the intersection of operations, supply chain, and business strategy.

Core Responsibilities. Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop detailed production plans based on demand forecasts and orders
- Create daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules
- Ensure optimal utilization of machines, labor, and materials
Demand Forecasting & Coordination
- Work closely with sales and marketing teams to understand demand trends
- Adjust production plans based on seasonal or market changes
- Balance supply with demand to avoid overproduction or stockouts
Inventory Management
- Monitor raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods
- Ensure adequate stock levels without excess inventory
- Coordinate with procurement for timely material availability
Capacity Planning
- Evaluate production capacity (machines, manpower, time)
- Identify bottlenecks and optimize workflows
- Plan for scaling production when needed
Coordination Across Departments
- Collaborate with:
- Procurement (for raw materials)
- Manufacturing (for execution)
- Quality (for standards)
- Logistics (for delivery timelines)
Process Improvement
- Analyze production data and K Pis
- Implement lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives
- Reduce waste, downtime, and inefficiencies
Risk Management
- Identify potential disruptions (machine breakdowns, supply delays)
- Develop contingency plans
- Ensure business continuity
Reporting & Documentation
- Track production performance metrics
- Prepare reports for senior management
- Maintain accurate production records
