Purpose of the role:
The Site Manager is responsible for meeting contract requirements and Valmet’s goals by planning and managing the site operations, ensuring HSE, cost effectiveness, quality, and correct timing.
In multi-unit projects, involving several business lines and/or business units, a General Site Manager is appointed. Specific additional responsibilities of this role can be found at the end of the Responsibilities section.
Areas of responsibility:
Planning and establishment
- Familiarize with the delivery scope of equipment and services, including the customer’s requirements and obligations
Customer relations
- Contact for the customer, site experts, subcontractors, and other site-related activities
- Represent Valmet in site meetings with the customer and other vendors
Site management
- Manage and report progress, cost, headcount, and time schedule
- Construction/installation and commissioning of Valmet-supplied equipment with safety features following budgets and schedule
- Ensure that relevant inspections by authorities at site are done
- Ensure customer’s readiness for the construction/installation and site operations
- Manage construction/installation and commissioning punch list before take-over
- Collect documentation of Document all work at site, e.g. check sheets, measurement records, field reports, time logs and site diary
- Provide/lead the site feedback to related functions, including comments on good designs as well as design deficiencies, and recommended improvements
HSE on-site
- Site HSE instructions and requirements are shared between relevant parties, e.g. Valmet, customer, and subcontractors
- Site-specific HSE plan and site risk assessments implemented and up to date
- Work is conducted in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and Customer and Valmet HSE standards and rules, as more specified in Site-specific HSE plan, Site risk assessments and other related project- and site-specific instructions
- Site safety level frequently monitored and potential risks are eliminated or mitigated
- Incidents, near misses and risk observations are reported and investigated
- Identify the resources needed to complete HSE tasks and request those from respective resource owners
General Responsibilities
- Unify Valmet approach and reporting towards customer
- Seek and follow up synergy benefits between Valmet areas
- Overall schedule synchronization for Valmet deliveries
- Make decisions within frames given by MC Project Manager/Project Director
- Handle local purchases, transportations, etc. within budget frame
- Decide on the timing of Valmet resources at site, including partners
- Sign Valmet timesheets and other contractor documents
- Sign site acceptances with customer
- Enforce HSE on-site, including correction of any unsafe conditions
- Approval of changes on site within agreed frames

Reports to the MC Project Manager/Project Director.
