- To supervise and manage the overall production operations of the Galvanising plant, achieving of daily production targets with the desired quality, safety, and efficiency. The role involves daily production planning, resource management, process optimization, and maintain 5 “S” in the galvanising plant.
- Supervise the complete hot-dip galvanising process, including: Material receiving and inspection, degreasing/cleaning, acid pickling, fluxing, oven drying/preheating, zinc bath dipping, water quenching, Passivation-Sodium Dichromate/ Colour less Passivation, Filing & finishing, Final inspection and shipping to assembly.
- Allocate manpower and coordinate shift activities to meet production targets.
- Monitor zinc bath temperature, chemical concentrations, bath condition, and process parameters
- Ensure proper material preparation and correct dipping/withdrawal techniques.
- Inspect galvanised products for coating thickness, appearance, adhesion, bare spots, ash/dross, runs, and other defects.
- Coordinate rectification and re-galvanising where required.
- Maintain production records, quality reports, chemical records, and shift handover reports.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and relevant galvanising standards.
- Monitor zinc, chemicals, fuel, and other consumables to minimise wastage.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance of galvanising tanks, heating systems, cranes, jigs, pumps, and associated equipment.
- Identify process problems and take corrective action to reduce rejection and improve productivity.
- Train and supervise operators and helpers on galvanising procedures and safe working practices.
- Ensure PPE is used correctly and all safety procedures are followed.
- Conduct toolbox talks and report accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and equipment problems.
- Maintain good housekeeping and 5S standards around the galvanising plant.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Stores, and Dispatch teams.
- Drive implementation of lean manufacturing, 5S, FIFO, and Kaizen activities.
Required Skills and Competencies :
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in various materials galvanisations (Forging components, Casting Components, steel fabricated components, Flats, pipes, rods, welded structures, inside /outside threaded components etc.)
- Strong knowledge of Galvanising processes 7 tanks cleaning process and related chemicals and its MSDS.
- Practical knowledge of the hot-dip galvanising process and zinc bath operation.
- Experience handling cranes, lifting equipment, jigs, and galvanising plant machinery.
- Knowledge of coating thickness measurement and basic quality inspection.
- Understanding of workplace safety, chemical handling, and PPE requirements.
- Ability to supervise operators and manage a production shift.
- Basic computer skills for production and reporting documentation.
- Sound knowledge of galvanising components inspection and testing methods and requirements (DFT, Scratch tests, Hammer Tests, Copper sulphate tests etc.)
- Knowledge of galvanising process defects and remedial action plans.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills i.e. 8 D CAPA, Quality Circles, 6 Sigma, 7 QC Tools, Why- Why Analysis etc.
Preferred Industry Experience:
- Transmission Line Hardware Industry / Engineering Industry / Manufacturing Industry / Structural Fabrication Industry.
- Experience Required - 5 to 7 years
