Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Azure Database Migration Engineer to lead enterprise database modernization and cloud migration initiatives. The ideal candidate will have expertise in migrating SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB databases to Microsoft Azure while designing secure, scalable, and highly available cloud architectures. This role involves implementing migration strategies, optimizing database performance, automating infrastructure deployments, and ensuring business continuity through High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and execute database migration projects from SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB to Azure.
- Design and implement secure, scalable, and highly available Azure database architectures.
- Perform database assessments, migration planning, and workload analysis.
- Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF) where required.
- Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for database deployments and cloud infrastructure.
- Implement High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions to ensure business continuity.
- Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and capacity planning.
- Monitor and optimize cloud resources for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and DevOps teams during migration and modernization projects.
- Implement security best practices, backup strategies, and compliance requirements for cloud databases.
- Troubleshoot migration issues, resolve production incidents, and provide technical support.
- Document migration processes, architecture designs, operational procedures, and best practices.
Required Skills
Technical (Must Have):
- Strong experience migrating SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB databases to Microsoft Azure.
- Expertise in Azure Architecture and cloud-native database services.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF).
- Strong knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies.
- Experience with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for database and infrastructure deployments.
- Strong database administration, performance tuning, and query optimization skills.
- Experience with capacity planning and resource optimization.
- Knowledge of cloud security, backup, and recovery best practices.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Database for MySQL, Azure Cosmos DB, and Azure Managed Instances.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized database workloads.
- Exposure to cloud modernization and enterprise application transformation initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Database Administration, or a related field.
- 6–10 years of experience in Database Administration, Cloud Migration, or Azure Infrastructure.
- Microsoft Azure certifications (such as Azure Database Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Azure Administrator Associate) are preferred.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
Preferred Experience
- Leading enterprise-scale database migration and cloud modernization projects.
- Designing Azure architectures with High Availability and Disaster Recovery.
- Automating infrastructure provisioning using Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.
- Optimizing large-scale databases through performance tuning and capacity planning.
- Supporting mission-critical production environments with minimal downtime during migrations.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, and cost-effective Azure cloud solutions.
