Experience Level: 3–6 Years
Industry: Industrial Automation, Automotive Manufacturing (BIW), Robotics Systems Integration
Job Purpose
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Robot Programmer to lead the development, programming, and optimization of industrial robotic systems. In this role, you will be responsible for end-to-end robotic integration, PLC-to-robot communication protocols, and commissioning complex manufacturing applications (such as MIG/Spot/Laser welding, roller hemming, and material handling) for leading automotive OEMs and Tier 1 vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Robot Programming & Commissioning: Code, simulate, and program multi-axis industrial robots (KUKA KRC5, Fanuc R30iB, ABB) from scratch for applications including Spot/MIG/Laser Welding, Pick & Place, and Roller Hemming.
- PLC & HMI Integration: Configure, interface, and troubleshoot PLC systems (Siemens, Mitsubishi, Allen-Bradley) and design HMI interfaces to ensure seamless robot-to-PLC communication and safety interlock compliance.
- Advanced Configurations: Manage advanced robotic peripherals including Automatic Tool Changers (ATC), gripper configurations, zoning, calibration, and vision/seam-tracking software (e.g., KML).
- Process Optimization: Conduct cycle time reduction, process tuning, and mechanical fixture alignments to meet production target metrics in Body-in-White (BIW) environments.
- Project Leadership & Support: Lead small engineering teams (up to 5 members) during on-site commissioning, manage customer communication, resolve technical complaints, and provide training to plant operators and technicians.
Required Technical Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automation, or a related field.
- Robotics Platforms: Expert-level proficiency in Fanuc (certified preferred) and KUKA systems. Knowledge of Yaskawa or collaborative robots (Cobots) is a strong plus.
- Automation Software: Proficient in PLC programming logic, factory safety protocols, and advanced tool integrations.
- Manufacturing Methodologies: Familiarity with operational excellence tools such as KAIZEN, 5S, POKA-YOKE, and monitoring PQVC metrics.
Soft Skills & Behavioral Attributes
- Leadership & Ownership: Proven ability to direct small project teams and handle direct client-facing communications under tight deployment timelines.
- Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting capabilities for both hardware and software integration glitches during live production.
- Global Mobility: Readiness to travel to client sites domestically and internationally for setup and commissioning (e.g., APAC region).
- Languages: Fluency in English, Hindi, and Marathi. Basic understanding or learning of Japanese is a massive advantage for global automotive OEMs.
