Job Description
Sun Merchandising Services is looking for an experienced Product Development & Design Manager with strong expertise in bags and fashion accessories, along with experience across apparel and home products.
The person will be responsible for developing new products and designs based on buyer requirements, market trends, and reference samples. This is a hands-on role combining designing, product development, sampling, and detailed quality/design checking.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and design handbags, totes, cosmetic bags, fashion bags, apparel, accessories, and home products based on buyer requirements and market trends.
- Create designs, CADs, artworks, colorways, specifications, and product presentations for buyers and factories.
- Work closely with factories and the merchandising team from initial concept through sample development and final approval.
- Personally check every important sample before it is shipped to the buyer to ensure the design, measurements, colors, materials, trims, artwork, construction, finishing, and overall appearance are correct.
- Compare samples carefully against buyer comments, approved references, tech packs, artworks, and specifications.
- Identify design or development issues before samples are sent and coordinate with factories for immediate corrections.
- Develop new concepts and collections based on US and Canadian retail trends.
- Research trends in bags, apparel, accessories, gifting, and home categories and convert them into commercially viable products.
- Coordinate with merchandising, sourcing, factories, and management to ensure samples are developed correctly and on time.
- Maintain proper records of sample comments, approvals, artworks, colors, materials, and revisions.
- Take complete ownership of the design and appearance of samples being presented to customers.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in product development/design.
- Strong experience in bags/handbags is essential.
- Additional experience in apparel, fashion accessories, or home products is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of materials, fabrics, trims, construction, printing, embroidery, embellishments, colors, and finishing.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify even small differences between an approved design and physical sample.
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other relevant design software.
- Experience working with export houses, buying houses, manufacturers, or international buyers is preferred.
- Understanding of products developed for the US/Canadian retail market would be an advantage.
- Must be highly organized, creative, commercially minded, and comfortable coordinating directly with factories.
Most Important Part of the Role
We are looking for someone who is not only a designer but also takes personal ownership of product development and sampling. Every key sample being shipped to a buyer should be physically reviewed by this person to ensure that the design, color, quality, construction, measurements, and overall presentation are as close to perfect as possible before dispatch.

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
