REIL is developing a cutting-edge enterprise AI platform focused on financial compliance and intelligence.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Backend Engineer to completely own the integration layer of our platform. In this role, you will build the critical APIs and services that connect AI outputs back into live operational workflows, integrate with government portals and external data sources, and ensure that our platform interacts reliably with RIL’s vast existing infrastructure.
This role requires equal measures of technical rigor and pragmatism to deliver highly resilient systems within a fast-moving build timeline.
Key Responsibilities1. Integration Mapping & Design
- Collaborate with the Solutions Architect to map out every enterprise integration touchpoint, including ERP workflow interfaces, government portals, supplier systems, and banking feeds.
- Analyze latency requirements for each touchpoint to engineer optimized designs for both real-time endpoints and high-volume batch integrations.
- Architect robust fallback mechanisms for every integration—ensuring the system degrades gracefully without blocking business operations if an AI model is unavailable or encounters low confidence.
2. Real-Time API Development
- Design and implement a high-performance API layer connecting the AI inference layer to operational systems using clean contracts, versioned endpoints, and clear error schemas.
- Build advanced resilience patterns directly into real-time integrations, including circuit breakers, retry logic, timeouts, and rate limits to handle heavy concurrent loads.
3. Government Portal & External Integrations
- Build and manage secure integrations with government portal APIs to pull inward supply data, vendor return filing statuses, customs data, and regulatory notices.
- Successfully navigate the unique constraints of government API ecosystems, including strict rate limits, complex authentication flows, unpredictable schema changes, and varied reliability baselines.
4. Monitoring & Production Stability
- Implement comprehensive API monitoring, telemetry, and alerting coverage (latency, error rates, upstream availability) to catch and fix integration anomalies before they impact end users.
- Partner with MLOps Engineers to guarantee that underlying model inference endpoints are stable and performant enough to meet integration SLAs.
- Maintain pristine, up-to-date API contract documentation to enable unblocked consumption by Full Stack Engineers and the wider engineering squad.
Qualifications & SkillsEducation
- B.E. / B.Tech / M.Tech in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience with a definitive focus on API architecture and large-scale enterprise system integrations.
- Proven track record of building and running production-grade integrations alongside complex, multi-layered, or legacy enterprise platforms.
- Hands-on experience developing real-time, low-latency, and highly critical APIs in an operational context.
Technical Skill Set
- Programming Languages: High proficiency in Python (primary); working knowledge of at least one other language such as Java, Go, or Node.js.
- API Architecture: RESTful design principles, strict versioning strategies, contract-first development, and security protocols (OAuth 2.0, API keys, mTLS).
- Resilience Patterns: Deep understanding of circuit breakers, exponential backoffs, rate-limiting, bulkheads, and graceful service degradation.
- ERP & Message Broking: Experience integrating with SAP or equivalent large ERP systems (BAPIs, RFC calls, event-driven extraction); proficiency with Kafka or RabbitMQ for asynchronous event messaging.
- DevOps & Observability: Production experience with Docker, Kubernetes, distributed tracing (Jaeger, Zipkin), and structured centralized logging.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience interfacing with Indian government API ecosystems (e.g., GSTN, ICEGATE), including a sharp understanding of their specific reliability profiles.
- Background building high-availability integrations that serve live ML model inference endpoints.
- Familiarity with enterprise SAP integration patterns (SAP BTP, OData services, or SAP API Hub).
- Experience implementing API gateway tooling (such as Kong, AWS API Gateway, or Tyk) in a fintech or heavily regulated compliance landscape.
