Role: Database Administrator (DBA)
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL DBA with 3+ years of hands-on production experience managing PostgreSQL databases in high-availability, high-transaction environments. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in daily database operations, performance optimization, security hardening, backup/recovery, replication, and production troubleshooting.
This role is critical for ensuring database stability, performance, and scalability for our SaaS ERP platform.
Must-Have Experience
Candidate must have hands-on experience in:
PostgreSQL Production Administration
- Managing PostgreSQL databases in production environments
- Daily health checks, monitoring, and proactive issue detection
- Database patching, version upgrades, and maintenance planning
- User management, role-based access, and permission handling
- Managing large production databases
Performance Optimization
Strong experience in:
- Slow query analysis and optimization
- Query execution plan analysis (EXPLAIN / ANALYZE)
- Index tuning and index strategy design
- Partitioning implementation and maintenance
- Lock analysis and deadlock troubleshooting
- Connection bottleneck analysis
- PostgreSQL configuration tuning:
- shared_buffers
- work_mem
- maintenance_work_mem
- effective_cache_size
- checkpoint settings
- WAL tuning
Backup & Disaster Recovery
Hands-on experience with:
- pg_dump / pg_restore
- PITR (Point-in-Time Recovery)
- WAL archiving
- Backup validation and restore testing
- Disaster recovery execution
Replication & High Availability
Hands-on experience with:
- Streaming replication setup and monitoring
- Replication lag troubleshooting
- Failover handling
- Read replica management
- HA tools like:
- Patroni
- repmgr
- PgBouncer (preferred)
Security
Strong knowledge of:
- PostgreSQL security hardening
- Authentication methods
- SSL/TLS database security
- Role-based access control
- Database auditing
- Access restriction policies
- Security patching
Troubleshooting
Must be able to independently troubleshoot:
- High CPU database issues
- Slow database response
- Blocking / deadlocks
- Connection exhaustion
- Replication failures
- Disk space issues
- WAL growth issues
- Backup failures
- Database crash recovery
Linux Knowledge
Must have practical Linux administration experience:
- Process monitoring
- Memory / CPU troubleshooting
- Disk monitoring
- Log analysis
- Service management
- Shell scripting basics
