As Quality Assurance Lead, you will own testing standards, drive automation, oversee performance quality, and lead the adoption of AI-driven quality workflows across all pods, with QA engineers embedded directly within cross-functional pods to ensure quality is built in from the start — not added at the end.
Broad Function:
Varta is building the Engagement OS for Banks across four core modules—Core, Signal, Stream, and Sense—deployed in secure BFSI environments.
The Quality Assurance Lead owns:
Own production-grade reliability for a banking-grade platform — zero tolerance for quality escapes- Build a data-driven, automation-first QA function from the ground up
- Integrate AI into testing, debugging, and quality validation workflows
- Drive QA adoption across all engineering pods as a core pillar of Engineering 3.0
Purpose of the Role:
You will partner directly with the VP of Engineering, Architect, and AI Engineering Lead to build and lead a quality function that matches the pace and ambition of our engineering organisation. Your role exists to ensure that Varta ships fast — but never breaks trust.
Roles and Responsibilities (not limited to):
1. Own End-to-End Product Quality
- Define and enforce quality standards across all pods
- Ensure minimal critical defects in production
- Own release quality confidence
2. Build an AI-First QA Function
- Use AI for automated test case generation to improve coverage and reduce manual effort.
- Leverage AI to expand regression scenarios and ensure comprehensive validation of changes.
- Apply AI techniques to discover edge cases and uncover hidden defects.
- Utilize AI for log analysis and debugging to accelerate issue identification and resolution.
- Integrate QA seamlessly into AI-assisted engineering workflows to enhance overall software quality and delivery speed.
3. Drive Automation-First Testing
Identify and prioritize critical regression scenarios to ensure stability of core functionalities.- Build and maintain automation across APIs, backend services, and end-to-end workflows.
- Integrate automated testing seamlessly into CI/CD pipelines for continuous quality assurance.
- Drive initiatives to significantly reduce dependency on manual QA through scalable automation.
4. Establish Data-Driven QA Metrics
Monitor defect leakage (Dev QA Prod) to control production defects.- Track bug severity trends to prioritize high-impact issues.
- Measure bugs reopen rates to ensure fix quality.
- Ensure strong test coverage across features.
- Track automation coverage to scale QA efficiency.
- Assess QA impact on cycle time to optimize delivery.
- Shift QA from activity tracking to measurable quality outcomes.
5. Embed QA Within Pods (Engineering 3.0)
Ensure QA participates in backlog grooming for early clarity and alignment.- Define test scenarios before development begins to enable shift-left testing.
- Foster close collaboration between QA and developers throughout the lifecycle.
- Establish strong QA ownership within each pod for end-to-end quality accountability.
- Promote an early validation mindset to catch defects sooner.
6. Performance & Reliability Ownership
Define service-level performance benchmarks to set clear reliability standards.- Drive load and stress testing to validate system scalability and stability.
- Identify performance bottlenecks early to prevent production issues.
- Ensure Varta meets bank-grade reliability and performance expectations.
7. Defect Prevention (Not Just Detection)
Identify root causes of recurring bugs to prevent repeat issues.- Collaborate with engineering to fix design gaps impacting quality.
- Address missing validations to strengthen system reliability.
- Improve edge-case handling to reduce unexpected failures.
- Drive efforts to significantly reduce recurring defects.
8. QA Governance Across Pods
Standardize testing practices across pods to ensure uniform quality.- Ensure consistent test coverage across all modules.
- Align and track quality metrics uniformly across teams.
- Standardize automation practices for scalability and efficiency.
- Act as the central authority for quality engineering governance.
9. Collaborate Across Engineering Leadership
Partner with VP Engineering to ensure delivery quality.- Collaborate with Architect to address system risks and complexity.
- Work with AI Lead to enable AI-driven QA workflows.
- Align with CTO to ensure production stability.
10. Build AI-Ready QA Team
Train manual QA teams on automation and AI-driven testing.- Upskill teams in AI-assisted testing practices.
- Strengthen expertise in API testing.
- Build capabilities in system-level validation.
- Foster a high-ownership QA culture.
Test Automation Expertise
Strong experience in test automation using tools like Selenium, Playwright, or CypressLanguages: Java, Python, JavaScript- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScriptBuild scalable, maintainable automation suites
- Hands-on experience with automation frameworks like TestNG, JUnit, or PyTest.
- Ability to design, develop, and maintain scalable and reusable automation frameworks
Desired Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- 6–10 years of experience in QA / Quality Engineering.
- Proven track record of leading and scaling QA teams.
- Experience driving adoption of low-code/no-code platforms to accelerate development and improve engineering efficiency.
- Experience working in product-based organizations.
- Strong understanding of backend systems, APIs, and distributed architectures
- Hands-on expertise in automation frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, or Cypress.
- Strong experience in API testing using tools like Postman or Rest Assured.
- Experience in performance testing using k6, JMeter, or similar tools.
- Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines and test integration.
- Familiarity with AI-driven testing tools and practices (preferred).
