Job Summary:
The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing automated systems and processes to improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, and safety. The role involves integrating mechanical, electrical, robotics, PLC, and vision systems to develop innovative automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Development
- Develop system layouts, control panel designs, and electrical schematics.
- Select appropriate actuators, sensors, drives, and control components for automation projects.
- Integrate robots (ABB, Fanuc, Yaskawa, etc.) and vision systems for automated inspection and assembly tasks.
2. PLC & Control Systems
- Program and troubleshoot PLC systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron, Delta, etc.).
- Develop HMI/SCADA interfaces for machine monitoring and control.
- Perform logic design, simulation, testing, and debugging of control programs.
- Ensure communication between PLCs, robots, and vision systems using protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, etc.
3. Robotics Integration
- Configure, program, and maintain industrial robots for handling, welding, assembly, and packaging applications.
- Collaborate with mechanical teams to design robotic end-effectors and tooling.
- Optimize robot paths and cycle times for maximum productivity.
4. Vision Systems
- Implement machine vision and AI-based inspection systems for quality control and part identification.
- Work with cameras, lighting, and image-processing software (Cognex, Keyence, NI Vision, OpenCV, etc.).
- Develop inspection algorithms and integrate with PLCs or robots.
5. Maintenance & Support
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting automation equipment and production lines.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and calibration of automation systems.
- Train operators and maintenance personnel on automated systems
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
- Expertise in PLC programming and HMI design.
- Hands-on experience with robot programming and integration.
- Familiarity with machine vision and image processing systems.
- Understanding of electrical circuit design, sensors, and actuators.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills for debugging and optimization.
- Ability to work in cross-functional engineering teams.
