- Providing comfort to patients by assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, feeding, and dressing
- Observing patient behavior to identify signs of changes in physical or psychological status that may require additional medical attention
- Collecting data about patient’s current health status, including vital signs, intake and output of fluids, medication administration, lab results, etc.
- Preparing patients for surgery by washing and disinfecting the surgical site, applying antiseptic solutions, and covering wounds with sterile drapes
- Monitoring equipment such as electrocardiographs (EKGs), pulse oximeters, blood pressure monitors, respiratory rate monitors, temperature probes, and oxygen delivery devices.
- Maintaining records of patient care activities such as administering medications, recording observations of patient behavior, and preparing reports on patient status
- Preparing patients for transport to other facilities by performing tasks such as cleaning wounds and changing bandages
- Performing diagnostic tests such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), urinalysis, cultures, and other procedures as ordered by a physician
