Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Design Manager to lead our Mechanical Design team and drive the successful execution of automation projects from concept development through manufacturing and commissioning. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in machine design, project coordination, technical leadership, and customer interaction within the Industrial Automation/SPM industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the Mechanical Design team to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery.
- Develop and review machine concepts based on customer requirements and technical specifications.
- Validate concept designs, engineering calculations, costing inputs, BOMs, manufacturing drawings, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with Sales, Manufacturing, Procurement, Assembly, and Commissioning teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review and approve detailed engineering drawings, GD&T, fabrication drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
- Select and validate mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, robotic, and automation components.
- Conduct design reviews, technical discussions, risk assessments, and feasibility evaluations.
- Resolve engineering challenges during manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning.
- Track project progress, manage design schedules, and ensure on-time project completion.
- Drive continuous improvement, engineering standardization, and design innovation.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong experience in Industrial Automation, Special Purpose Machines (SPM), Robotic Welding Cells, Assembly & Testing Systems, and Machine Building.
- Expertise in Machine Design, 3D Modelling, Manufacturing Drawings, GD&T, BOM preparation, and Design Validation.
- Hands-on knowledge of SolidWorks (preferred) or equivalent 3D CAD software.
- Good understanding of Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems, Machine Elements, Bearings, Gearboxes, Linear Motion Systems, Sensors, Jigs & Fixtures, and Welding Processes.
- Knowledge of engineering calculations including load, torque, deflection, cycle time, and structural analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving, leadership, communication, and project management skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in Industrial Automation/SPM/Machine Building.
- Prior experience leading design teams and managing customer-facing engineering projects is highly preferred.
