Job Description: Research Volunteer – Ayurvedic & Vedic Studies (Garbhadhāna & Gṛhya Sūtras)
Project Overview
The Vandanam Organization is seeking dedicated Research Volunteers to join an interdisciplinary team bridging ancient Indian civilizational wisdom with modern scientific inquiry. This role focuses on the intellectual and spiritual foundations of the Shodasha Samskaras, specifically the Garbhadhāna ritual, as detailed in the Upaniṣads and Gṛhya Sūtras.
This is a voluntary, unpaid position. While no monetary compensation is provided, all contributors will receive formal credit for their research. Successful applicants will have their names included in published collaborative papers, organizational documentations, and team citations, offering significant academic and professional visibility within the fields of Indology and Ayurvedic research.
Core Focus Areas
- Textual Analysis: Critical interpretation of original Sanskrit texts including the Garbhadhāna Upaniṣad and various Gṛhya Sūtras (e.g., Baudhāyana, Āśvalāyana, or Pāraskara).
- Ritualistic Frameworks: Detailed study of the Kalpa Sūtras and the biological/spiritual intersections of Garbha Sanskar.
- Scientific Synthesis: Translating traditional prenatal insights into modern frameworks of cognitive science and genetics.
Responsibilities
- Primary Source Research: Extract and translate key passages from the Gṛhya Sūtras and Upaniṣads relevant to conception and prenatal development.
- Thematic Documentation: Categorize rituals and instructions from the Kalpa Sūtras to build a structured database for modern research applications.
- Interdisciplinary Bridge-Building: Collaborate with cognitive scientists and medical researchers to identify parallels between Vedic "Samskaras" and contemporary prenatal care/epigenetics.
- Manuscript Preparation: Contribute specialized sections to white papers and research articles, ensuring technical accuracy in Sanskrit terminology and ritualistic context.
- Collaborative Review: Participate in internal seminars to present findings and refine the organization’s "Guru Vandanam" research pipeline.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Academic Background: Advanced degree (or ongoing PhD research) in Indology, Sanskrit Studies, Ancient Indian History, or Ayurvedic Medicine (BAMS/MD).
- Linguistic Proficiency: Strong ability to read, interpret, and transliterate original Sanskrit texts without heavy reliance on secondary translations.
- Specialization: Proven interest or prior research in the Shodasha Samskaras or the Vedangas.
- Analytical Rigor: Ability to present findings in a clear, objective, and prioritizing critical thinking over abstract generalizations.
- Commitment: Ability to dedicate consistent weekly hours to remote collaborative work.
