Job Title: Hospital Accountant
Qualification: B.Com / M.Com / MBA (Finance) or equivalent
Experience: Trained / Experienced in hospital accounts and billing preferred
Job Summary
A Hospital Accountant is responsible for managing and maintaining all financial records, accounts, and billing activities in a healthcare facility. The role ensures accuracy in financial transactions, compliance with hospital policies, and timely reporting to management.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting
- Maintain day-to-day financial transactions, ledgers, and account books.
- Prepare journal entries, cash books, and bank reconciliation statements.
- Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Handle vendor payments, staff reimbursements, and petty cash.
- Ensure timely deposit of cash, cheques, and online payments.
Billing & Revenue Management
- Coordinate with billing department for daily revenue reports.
- Verify OPD/IPD billing, pharmacy bills, and diagnostic charges.
- Check TPA/insurance-related billing and claim settlements.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly financial summaries for management.
Auditing & Compliance
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Ensure all financial transactions follow hospital policies and statutory laws.
- Maintain proper documentation for GST, TDS, and other tax requirements.
- Support management in preparing budget reports and cost analysis.
MIS & Reporting
- Prepare MIS reports such as revenue statements, expense reports, and profit analysis.
- Submit timely financial reports to management for decision-making.
- Track outstanding payments and follow up on pending dues.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and hospital finance.
- Proficiency in accounting software (Tally, ERP, HIS).
- Good analytical and numerical skills.
- Excellent communication, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of TPA/insurance billing is an advantage.
Additional Responsibilities (If required by employer)
- Assist in payroll processing.
- Support inventory management and maintain stock-related financial records.
- Coordinate with departments for smooth financial operations.
