Job Summary
The Factory Head will be responsible for leading and managing the production planning, execution, quality assurance, compliance, workforce management, and coordination with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate must have extensive experience in denim product manufacturing and proven leadership in managing large-scale factory operations and team.
Key Responsibilities
Production Management:
- Plan, organize, and oversee daily production activities to meet delivery timelines and quality standards.
- Ensure optimal utilization of resources, machinery, and manpower.
- Monitor production efficiency, wastage, and cost control measures.
PPC & Capacity Planning:
- Line loading and balancing across all production lines.
- Capacity planning aligned with order book and delivery schedules.
- Production TNA (Time & Action) calendar management.
- Material readiness tracking to avoid line stoppages.
- WIP control across cutting, stitching, washing, and finishing.
- Develop and execute recovery plans for schedule delays.
- Drive OTIF (On-Time-In-Full) delivery performance.
Denim Manufacturing Expertise:
- Supervise all stages of denim garment production including cutting, stitching, washing, finishing, and packing.
- Implement best practices for denim handling, fabric treatments, and finishing techniques.
- Maintain consistency in product quality aligned with buyer specifications.
Denim Laundry / Washing:
- Lead wash development and bulk execution for denim garments.
- Ensure shrinkage and shade consistency across wash lots.
- Control rewash and rejection levels in the laundry process.
- Monitor chemical, water, and energy consumption in washing operations.
- Manage laundry capacity planning, including vendor management where washing is outsourced.
Industrial Engineering / Productivity:
- Drive SMV (Standard Minute Value) computation and target setting.
- Lead line balancing initiatives across all production lines.
- Identify and implement efficiency improvement projects.
- Optimize man-machine ratio for productivity gains.
- Track and improve operator productivity.
- Maintain skill matrix and drive multi-skilling of the workforce.
- Oversee incentive and productivity-linked systems.
Maintenance & Engineering:
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules for all machinery.
- Monitor and improve machine uptime and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
- Control machine breakdowns and minimize downtime.
- Oversee factory utilities and ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Manage spare-parts planning and inventory.
- Identify and justify CAPEX requirements for machinery and infrastructure.
Quality & Compliance:
- Establish and enforce quality control systems across all production lines.
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, labor laws, and buyer audit requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in safety, sustainability, and compliance standards.
- Own and deliver measurable quality outcomes including RFT (Right First Time), DHU (Defects per Hundred Units), alteration/rejection rates, and first-pass yield.
- Track and address customer complaints through structured CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) and root-cause analysis.
Material & WIP Control:
- Ensure fabric and trims readiness ahead of production.
- Track cut-to-ship progress across all orders.
- Monitor WIP ageing and take corrective action on bottlenecks.
- Drive material utilisation and control fabric/process wastage.
EHS & Sustainability:
- Own fire & safety and overall EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) performance for the factory.
- Ensure environmental compliance across all operations.
- Drive water, energy, and waste management initiatives.
- Ensure chemical compliance in line with regulatory and buyer standards.
- Meet buyer sustainability requirements and audits.
Workforce, People & Industrial Relations:
- Manage workforce planning, recruitment, and training of factory staff.
- Foster a culture of discipline, accountability, and teamwork.
- Monitor and control absenteeism and attrition.
- Drive labour productivity and maintain an up-to-date skill matrix.
- Manage discipline, grievance handling, and industrial relations.
- Build and develop second-line leadership within the factory.
MIS / ERP / Technology:
- Ensure timely and accurate daily production MIS reporting.
- Maintain ERP discipline across all production and material transactions.
- Drive real-time production tracking on the shop floor.
- Use data-driven performance management for decision-making.
- Identify and implement automation/digitalisation initiatives.
New Product → Bulk Readiness:
- Assess manufacturing feasibility for new styles and products.
- Oversee pilot production runs ahead of bulk execution.
- Manage the PP (Pre-Production)/sample-to-bulk transition smoothly.
- Identify critical operations that require special attention in bulk production.
- Assess wash feasibility for new denim washes before bulk execution.
Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Collaborate with merchandising, sourcing, and quality teams for smooth execution of orders.
- Provide regular updates to senior management on production status, challenges, and solutions.
- Liaise with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely availability of raw materials.
Strategic Initiatives:
- Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvement.
- Implement lean manufacturing practices to reduce costs and improve turnaround times.
- Contribute to long-term capacity planning and expansion strategies.
Key Skills
- 10–15 years of experience in garment manufacturing, with at least 5 years in denim production management.
- Strong knowledge of garment production processes, factory operations, and compliance standards.
- Proven track record of managing large teams and multiple production lines.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in handling buyer audits and maintaining international quality standards.
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver results within tight deadlines.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field.
