- Managing Customers: Assistant restaurant managers may help guests decide to make orders, choose seats while making sure that every table has enough furniture and tableware. They may conduct daily briefings with the staff and help improve services by ensuring staff members know pertinent information that they can use to prepare for the day.
- Ensuring a pleasant customer experience: Ensuring customer satisfaction and offering them quality service are among the chief responsibilities of restaurant assistant managers. These professionals are usually able to coordinate activities between the front and back of a restaurant to provide customers with an exceptional experience. They may evaluate customer satisfaction by asking for feedback in person.
- Managing human resource functions: An assistant restaurant manager is usually responsible for performing tasks relating to human resources, such as hiring and training personnel, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job achievements, along with planning and evaluating payment initiatives. They may enforce rules and regulations among staff members.
- Maintaining hygiene standards: An assistant restaurant manager is usually responsible for maintaining order and cleanliness in the dining areas, kitchen, and washrooms to ensure that a restaurant complies with safety rules. Besides overseeing the overall cleanliness of the space, they typically check whether the tables, tablecloths, drinkware, silverware, and linen are all spotless, safe, and ready to use for guests. They are often in charge of upholding all hygienic and safety standards to guarantee compliance with legal requirements.
- Maintaining Company Protocols: They need to make sure that all the SOPs are followed and that the staff wear neat uniforms and keep their workstations and kitchen equipment clean and organized.
- Preparing for special events: Restaurants may host special events, Assistant Manager has to make sure of the of decorations, special menu for such occasions, etc. They may help the chef choose the most suitable food items and recipes and oversee the staff in decorating the tables.
- Managing finances: Assistant restaurant managers generally take part in financial management. Setting sales targets strategically typically helps them make sure there is enough money available to pay the staff and vendors. They may maintain daily, weekly, and monthly records for expenditures and income and devise strategies for efficiently managing a restaurant's budget and keeping its expenses low.
- Managing equipment, inventory, and vendors: An assistant restaurant manager is typically responsible for placing orders for food, supplies, and equipment. They often make decisions considering the stock and routinely inspect, categorize, and replenish the inventory when necessary. They may create purchase orders and oversee the stock item purchases and receipts. The assistant manager oversees the proper maintenance and repairs of the restaurant's equipment. They can be responsible for ordering new equipment when it requires replacement and installing it.
