The Cath Lab Staff Nurse is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. The role includes patient preparation, assistance during procedures, post-procedure monitoring, infection control, emergency response, and ensuring compliance with hospital protocols and NABH standards.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Procedure
* Assess patients before procedures and verify consent.
* Prepare patients for angiography, angioplasty, pacemaker implantation, and other cardiac interventions.
* Check patient identification, investigations, allergies, renal function, and coagulation profile.
* Establish IV access and administer prescribed medications.
* Prepare and maintain Cath Lab equipment and consumables.
During Procedure
* Assist cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
* Maintain sterile technique and aseptic precautions.
* Monitor ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and vital parameters continuously.
* Prepare and administer contrast media and medications as prescribed.
* Handle emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, arrhythmias, or anaphylaxis.
* Operate and assist with Cath Lab equipment as per protocol.
Post-Procedure
* Monitor patients in the recovery area.
* Assess puncture sites for bleeding or hematoma.
* Monitor vital signs and cardiac rhythm.
* Provide patient education regarding post-procedure care and discharge instructions.
* Document nursing care accurately.
Equipment & Inventory
* Ensure readiness and proper functioning of Cath Lab equipment.
* Maintain emergency crash cart, defibrillator, and emergency medications.
* Monitor stock of consumables and report shortages.
* Coordinate equipment maintenance and calibration.
Qualifications
* GNM / BSC Nursing/ MSC Nursing/ PB Bsc Nursing
* Valid nursing license/registration.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (mandatory).
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred, depending on department).
* Relevant clinical experience in Cath Lab preferred.
