Job Title
Costing Engineer / Sr. Engineer – Product Costing (Wiring Harness)
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly analytical and techno-commercial Costing Engineer to drive end-to-end product costing for our wiring harness manufacturing operations. You will manage Request for Quotations (RFQs), conduct Bill of Materials (BOM) analysis, and implement value-added/value-engineering (VA/VE) to maximize our profitability and maintain competitive pricing.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation & Quotation: Prepare accurate, detailed cost estimates for new products by calculating material, labor, tooling, and overhead costs. Submit timely and competitive quotations to customers.
- BOM Analysis: Analyze customer drawings, electrical schematics, and Bill of Materials to accurately define manufacturing processes, cutting lengths, crimping requirements, and assembly steps.
- Price Amendments & Updates: Monitor raw material price fluctuations—specifically copper amendments. Ensure supplementary invoices are raised and pricing updates are accurately reflected in the ERP/SAP system.
- Cost Optimization (VA/VE): Identify opportunities to reduce material waste, optimize production line layouts, and propose alternative components to drive down total system cost.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Design, Purchasing, and Production teams to validate component costs, source competitive materials, and strategize vendor negotiations.
- Profitability Tracking: Conduct post-calculation and variance analysis to compare estimated costs against actual production runs, providing reports to management.
- Compliance: Ensure all costing practices and data are aligned with IATF and EMS quality standards.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering / Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: 3 to 8 years of proven experience in cost estimation, product costing, or commercial engineering, specifically within the Wiring Harness or Automotive Cable industry.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of wire harness manufacturing processes (e.g., wire cutting, stripping, crimping, taping, testing, and connector types).
- Software Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (creating costing models, pivot tables) and ERP/SAP systems.
- Business Acumen: Solid techno-commercial understanding, excellent negotiation skills, and ability to communicate technical cost drivers effectively.
