Profile:
The candidate should have experience in marine, shipyard, fabrication, heavy engineering, or industrial project environments with a sound understanding of mechanical systems, equipment maintenance, operational coordination, and yard execution activities.
The ideal candidate should possess extensive experience in marine vessel operations, preventive and corrective maintenance, dry-docking, refit planning, engineering coordination, statutory compliance, and fleet performance management. The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate with vessel crews, shipyards, classification societies, vendors, and clients to ensure maximum vessel availability, safety, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Fleet Operations Management
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the company's marine fleet.
- Ensure maximum vessel availability and operational readiness.
- Monitor fleet schedules, deployment, utilization, and performance.
- Coordinate vessel movements with operations and project teams.
- Support project execution by ensuring timely vessel availability.
- Develop fleet utilization strategies to improve operational efficiency.
2. Vessel Maintenance & Technical Management
- Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
- Prepare annual and monthly maintenance schedules.
- Monitor machinery, engines, propulsion systems, pumps, generators, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, HVAC, and auxiliary equipment.
- Plan and supervise emergency repairs and breakdown maintenance.
- Coordinate overhaul of engines and major machinery.
- Ensure proper maintenance records, job cards, and equipment history are maintained.
- Monitor spare parts inventory and critical equipment availability.
- Optimize maintenance costs while maintaining vessel reliability.
3. Dry Docking, Refit & Repair Management
- Plan and execute dry-docking and vessel refit projects.
- Prepare dry-docking specifications, work scopes, budgets, and schedules.
- Coordinate with shipyards, contractors, OEMs, and vendors.
- Monitor repair quality, timelines, and project progress.
- Conduct inspections before, during, and after dry-docking.
- Ensure timely completion of repairs within approved budgets.
4. Engineering & Technical Coordination
- Supervise Chief Engineers, Masters, Technical Officers, and onboard engineering teams.
- Review machinery performance reports and technical defects.
- Provide technical guidance for troubleshooting and repairs.
- Coordinate technical support between vessels and shore management.
- Evaluate machinery upgrades and modernization projects.
- Implement best engineering practices across the fleet.
5. Marine Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with IMO, DG Shipping, Class Society, Flag State, and Port Authority regulations.
- Monitor implementation of Safety Management System (SMS).
- Ensure vessel certifications remain valid.
- Coordinate statutory inspections and annual surveys.
- Maintain compliance with ISM Code, MARPOL, SOLAS, and company procedures.
- Participate in internal and external audits.
6. Budgeting & Cost Control
- Prepare annual fleet maintenance budgets.
- Monitor maintenance expenditure and operating costs.
- Evaluate quotations and negotiate with vendors.
- Control spare parts inventory and procurement costs.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising safety or reliability.
- Prepare monthly budget variance and cost performance reports.
7. Procurement & Vendor Management
- Coordinate procurement of marine machinery, equipment, consumables, and spare parts.
- Develop and maintain relationships with OEMs and approved suppliers.
- Evaluate vendor performance and service quality.
- Ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
- Verify technical specifications before procurement.
8. Crew & Resource Management
- Lead, mentor, and supervise technical and maintenance teams.
- Coordinate manpower planning for engineering personnel.
- Identify training requirements for vessel crews.
- Conduct performance evaluations and technical assessments.
- Promote teamwork and continuous improvement.
9. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain fleet maintenance history and technical records.
- Prepare technical reports for management.
- Monitor vessel KPIs, machinery reliability, fuel consumption, downtime, and maintenance performance.
- Maintain inspection reports, repair records, and statutory documentation.
- Prepare monthly fleet performance reports.
10. Emergency Response & Troubleshooting
- Provide technical support during machinery failures and onboard emergencies.
- Coordinate emergency repair teams and external service providers.
- Conduct root cause analysis for major equipment failures.
- Develop corrective and preventive action plans.
- Ensure minimum operational downtime.
11. Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
- Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for fleet maintenance.
- Conduct technical audits and vessel inspections.
- Recommend equipment upgrades and modernization initiatives.
- Implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices.
- Drive continuous improvement in fleet performance and maintenance efficiency.
12. Client & Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate with clients regarding vessel readiness and project requirements.
- Liaise with classification societies, port authorities, shipyards, and regulatory agencies.
- Support project teams during vessel mobilization and demobilization.
- Represent the company during technical meetings and inspections.
