LEAD DESIGN ENGINEER – COMPOSITE / AEROSPACE

JOB OVERVIEW
We are looking for an experienced Lead Design Engineer with strong expertise in Composite Design and/or Aerospace Design. The role will be responsible for developing practical engineering solutions, creating accurate 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings, and supporting production, tooling, and installation activities.
The ideal candidate should have strong CATIA/CAD modelling experience, knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing processes, and the ability to coordinate effectively with design, production, architects, clients, and other stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop engineering solutions, 3D models, and accurate 2D drawings for manufacturing and production.
Develop concepts and convert them into practical and manufacturable design solutions.
Prepare final design details and drawings to support installation and production.
Handle 3D modelling related to mould design, mould modification, and part modelling.
Prepare detailed drawings for moulds, shells, FRP, panels, and related components.
Interpret engineering, structural, and design documents and apply relevant engineering standards.
Review and check design drawings and models before internal approval and release.
Work closely with Design Engineering, Production, Architecture, and other departments.
Coordinate with architects and clients to understand design requirements and resolve technical issues.
Support production teams by resolving design-related queries and addressing manufacturing issues.
Prepare and communicate Bill of Materials (BOM), material specifications, design changes, milestones, and MRB information.
Understand composite materials, manufacturing techniques, tooling, and in-house production processes.
Analyse surfaces and identify opportunities for design modifications, optimization, cost reduction, and time savings.
Support multiple mould and tooling activities and identify opportunities to improve design efficiency.
Work across different materials and disciplines including steel, aluminium, UHPC, FRP, and fasteners.
Ensure designs meet structural, manufacturing, quality, and project requirements.
Deliver design engineering work within agreed timelines and project milestones.
Provide technical support and guidance to Design Engineers and Senior Design Engineers.
Support continuous improvement and suggest improvements to design and manufacturing processes.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
BSc/MSc in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant Engineering discipline.
7–10 years of relevant experience in Composite Design, Aerospace Design, or a closely related field.
5–10 years of hands-on experience using CATIA or similar CAD software.
Strong experience in 3D CAD modelling and 2D drafting.
Strong knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing processes.
Experience in complex modelling, surface design, product optimization, and system simulation.
Good understanding of engineering drawings, design standards, and manufacturing requirements.
Ability to interpret structural documentation and select appropriate processes, tooling, and panel detailing.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage priorities and meet project milestones and deadlines.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with internal teams, clients, architects, and production teams.
