The Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL) is a pioneering institution dedicated to sustainable and alternative education. Our School of Responsible Tourism focuses on promoting ecologically and socially responsible tourism in the fragile Himalayan region.
Role Overview:
We seek a faculty member who is both an educator and an entrepreneur, capable of teaching High Altitude Desert Ecology while also developing and commercializing sustainable produce and products from HIAL. The ideal candidate will blend academic expertise with hands-on business acumen to create impact-driven ecological enterprises.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Teaching & Research:
- Design and deliver courses on high-altitude ecology, water management, regenerative agriculture, and climate resilience.
- Conduct research on sustainable farming, soil conservation, and ecosystem restoration in arid regions.
- Mentor students in field-based ecological projects and innovations.
2. Entrepreneurial & Business Development:
- Develop and implement projects to cultivate, process, and market high-altitude produce and eco-friendly products.
- Establish partnerships with farmers, local artisans, and market networks to promote sustainable livelihoods.
- Work on branding, packaging, and sales strategies to make HIAL's ecological products commercially viable.
- Organize eco-business workshops, training programs, and community engagement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Educational Qualification: Master's or PhD in Ecology, Environmental Science, Sustainable Agriculture, or a related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years in teaching, research, and/or ecological entrepreneurship.
- Strong understanding of high-altitude ecosystems, sustainable agriculture, and business development.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with experience in product development, sales, and market outreach.
- Passion for ecological conservation, regenerative practices, and community-driven solutions.
