Job Summary
The Hospital Plumber is responsible for installing, inspecting, repairing, maintaining, and servicing all plumbing systems throughout the hospital to ensure uninterrupted water supply, proper drainage, sanitation, and compliance with healthcare regulations. The role is critical in maintaining a safe, hygienic, and efficient environment for patients, visitors, and hospital staff by ensuring all plumbing infrastructure functions reliably 24/7.
Key Responsibilities
Plumbing Maintenance
- Install, repair, and maintain all hospital plumbing systems.
- Maintain potable water supply systems.
- Repair leaking pipes, valves, faucets, and joints.
- Inspect and repair drainage and sewage systems.
- Replace damaged plumbing fixtures.
- Maintain underground and overhead water pipelines.
- Ensure uninterrupted water supply throughout the hospital.
Sanitary Systems
- Maintain patient room bathrooms.
- Service staff and public restrooms.
- Repair flushing systems.
- Maintain wash basins and sinks.
- Ensure proper drainage without blockages.
- Maintain floor traps and drainage channels.
- Prevent foul odors from drainage systems.
Medical Area Plumbing
- Maintain plumbing systems in:
- Operation Theatres
- Intensive Care Units (ICUs)
- Emergency Department
- Dialysis Units
- Endoscopy Units
- Laboratories
- CSSD (Central Sterile Services Department)
- Radiology Department
- Pharmacy
- Patient Wards
- Isolation Rooms
- Ensure uninterrupted water supply in critical care areas.
- Attend plumbing emergencies immediately.
Water Supply Management
- Inspect water storage tanks.
- Maintain booster pumps (plumbing side).
- Check water pressure.
- Inspect pipelines for leaks.
- Ensure continuous hot and cold water supply.
- Monitor water consumption.
- Assist in water conservation initiatives.
Drainage & Sewage Systems
- Clean drainage lines.
- Clear blocked pipelines.
- Repair sewage pipelines.
- Maintain rainwater drainage systems.
- Prevent flooding due to plumbing failures.
- Coordinate with sewage treatment plant personnel when required.
Plumbing Equipment Maintenance
Maintain and service:
- Water pumps (basic plumbing connections)
- Valves
- Water heaters
- Pressure reducing valves
- Float valves
- Water storage tanks
- Plumbing fixtures
- Flexible hoses
- Drainage pipes
- Water filters (plumbing connections)
Preventive Maintenance
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance.
- Conduct routine inspections.
- Identify plumbing defects before failure.
- Replace worn-out plumbing parts.
- Lubricate valves where applicable.
- Maintain preventive maintenance records.
Emergency Response
- Respond immediately to plumbing emergencies.
- Repair burst pipelines.
- Stop water leakages quickly.
- Restore water supply.
- Minimize disruption to patient care.
- Coordinate with engineering and infection control teams during emergencies.
Installation Work
- Install new pipelines.
- Install sanitary fixtures.
- Install wash basins.
- Install water closets.
- Install faucets and taps.
- Install sinks.
- Install drainage systems.
- Assist during hospital renovation projects.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow hospital safety procedures.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Follow confined-space safety requirements when applicable.
- Ensure plumbing work does not create hazards.
- Use warning signs during repairs.
- Prevent slips and falls caused by water leaks.
- Handle plumbing tools safely.
Infection Control
- Follow hospital infection prevention protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness while working in patient-care areas.
- Disinfect work areas after repairs where required.
- Coordinate with Infection Control before work in sterile or critical care areas.
- Dispose of plumbing waste appropriately.
- Prevent contamination of potable water systems.
Documentation
- Record daily maintenance activities.
- Maintain repair logs.
- Prepare work completion reports.
- Record materials used.
- Report recurring plumbing issues.
- Update preventive maintenance schedules.
- Report major repairs to the supervisor.
Coordination

Qualifications
- ITI Certificate in Plumbing or equivalent vocational qualification.
- Additional certification in plumbing maintenance is desirable.
- Knowledge of hospital plumbing systems is preferred.
Experience
- 2–5 years of plumbing experience.
- Experience in hospitals, hotels, commercial buildings, or industrial facilities is preferred.
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs is desirable.
Technical Knowledge
- Plumbing installation and maintenance.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
