Core duties and responsibilities on a construction site generally include:
Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification
- Inspections: Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly walk-throughs to identify unsafe acts or conditions (e.g., faulty scaffolding, electrical hazards, trenching issues).
- Job Hazard Analysis (JHA): Evaluate specific construction tasks to identify potential risks and establish control measures before work begins.
- Site-Specific Safety Plans: Develop and enforce comprehensive safety protocols tailored to the unique risks of the project.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
- Legal Standards: Ensure strict adherence to regional or federal safety laws (e.g., OSHA, local labor boards, or Factories Act requirements).
- Recordkeeping: Maintain precise logs of safety audits, accident reports, equipment inspections, and worker training certifications to ensure full audit readiness.
- Incident Reports: Investigate near-misses and accidents, document root causes, and submit official reports to management and regulatory authorities.
Training & Communication
- Worker Education: Organize and deliver safety training programs, including equipment operation, hazard recognition, and emergency protocols.
- Toolbox Talks: Facilitate regular (often daily or weekly) brief safety meetings to address specific, immediate on-site safety concerns.
- PPE Enforcement: Ensure all workers and subcontractors are properly issued and utilizing required Personal Protective Equipment.
Emergency Preparedness & Response
- Drills: Coordinate and oversee emergency response drills (e.g., fire, evacuation, or medical emergencies).
- First Aid: Ensure that adequate first aid supplies and trained personnel or medical evacuation plans are available on-site at all times.
