Position: Design Engineer - III - Materials Engineer
Who we are:
We are a start-up based out of Bengaluru & Delhi NCR. We are engaged in the development of next generation missions and technologies towards future warfare needs of the Indian defense forces. It is undertaking research towards enhancing persistence and autonomy for unmanned vehicles and robotic swarms. NRT’s product development portfolio includes a solar power stratospheric high altitude pseudo satellite (HAPS) unmanned platform and an air/ground launched stand-off autonomous system.
Job Description:
We are searching for a Materials and Testing Engineer with a focus in composite materials to provide Materials and Process, Research and Development and testing support to NRT’s developmental programs.
Roles & Responsibilities
Develop/acquire/maintain composite manufacturing databases for NRT products
Maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art in composites manufacturing science, technology, equipment, and/or systems.
Maintain
Design & Define testing protocols, review and analyze data
Lead material characterizations and support the structural design of aircrafts and ground systems
Perform development tests, create and develop technical documentation, establish technical delivery specifications,and manufacturing requirements
Present work including theory, approach, results, and conclusions and provide input concerning results, suggested modifications for future work.
Perform material, sub-component and component mechanical testing and qualification.
Direct manufacturing of coupons and samples for in-house or outside testing
Execute preparation of coupons and samples as per the applicable standards
Derive NRT’s testing and qualification standards to suite NRT’s portfolio of products
Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
Skills/Abilities/Experience:
Mandatory
Knowledge of polymers and composite materials (such as carbon, fiberglass, aramid, adhesives, thermoset/thermoplastic resins).
Advanced knowledge of design concepts and techniques of composite part manufacturing (e.g., concurrent engineering, Design for Manufacture/Assembly [DFM/A].
Knowledge of adhesive materials (such as epoxy, urethane, polyimide, reinforcements, etc) and processes.
Knowledge of composite and elastomer test program design (e.g., design of experiments, test plan development, validation)
Knowledge of composite and elastomer failure modes (structural and nonstructural) and analysis for materials, processes and parts.
Design knowledge of manufacturing for structural metallic and composite components
Knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g. design, test, software)
Knowledge of the interaction between departments/disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes
Desired
Implements corrective and preventive actions. Performs Root Cause Corrective Actions for non-conforming or non-complying materials and processes
Aerospace, and or Carbon Fiber Composite (Sandwich, Laminate) Industry standard testing experience
Qualifications:
M.E/M.Tech in Materials Science, Mechanical, Aerospace / Engineering and over 6 years of work experience, or B.E/B.Tech in Materials Science, Mechanical, Aerospace / Engineering and over 8 years of work experience.
3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience with the evaluation and qualification of materials, technology, and processes
