Job Purpose
To handle the evaluation, verification, and processing of old gold jewellery brought in by customers for exchange or buyback. This role acts as a bridge between the customer and the treasury/billing desk, ensuring precise testing, transparency in purity calculation, and compliance with the brand's stringent standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Key Responsibilities
- Gold Evaluation & Purity Testing: Conduct the physical and chemical evaluation of old gold jewellery brought by customers. Use specialized tools (like karat meters or acid tests) to accurately check the karatage and net weight.
- Melting & Assaying Coordination: Oversee the melting process of old jewellery in front of the customer (where required) to ensure transparency and eliminate impurities (dirt, stones, solder/lac) for an accurate final weight.
- Valuation & Calculation: Calculate the precise exchange or buyback value based on current daily market rates, deducting stone weights, making charges, and melting losses according to company policy.
- Customer Consultation: Explain the brand’s evaluation process clearly to customers. Resolve any queries regarding variations in purity or weight calculations politely to maintain absolute trust.
- Documentation & Compliance: Ensure immaculate record-keeping for every Old Gold transaction. This includes filing KYC documents (ID proofs, PAN cards, bills), generating exchange vouchers, and feeding accurate data into the inventory software.
- Inter-departmental Coordination: Coordinate smoothly with the Sales Associates (to facilitate the customer's new purchase) and the Cashier/Accounts desk to finalize billing deductions.
- Inventory Security: Securely pack, seal, and log the evaluated old gold before it is dispatched to the central treasury or factory for refinement.
Core Competencies & Skills
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of gold karatage ($24\text{K}, 22\text{K}, 18\text{K}$), hallmarking (BIS standards), and identifying precious vs. semi-precious stones.
- Numerical Accuracy: Sharp mathematical and analytical skills for error-free valuation and deduction calculations.
- Integrity & Trust: Highest level of honesty and transparency, as the role deals directly with liquid wealth and immediate customer sentiment.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate technical melting/purity metrics to laymen or anxious customers.
Educational & Experience Requirements
- Education: Graduate in any stream is typically mandatory. (A certification in Gemology or Diamond/Gold Grading is a significant advantage).
- Experience: 1 to 3 years of experience handling counter operations, cash, or gold evaluation in a reputed retail jewellery showroom.
- Age Limit: Generally ranges between 18 to 32 years depending on location requirements.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
