Job Title: Head – Plant & Machinery

This role requires a highly commercial, tech-savvy leader based out of Kolkata to oversee the procurement, deployment, and maintenance of heavy machinery (e.g., Hot Mix Plants, WMM Plants, Pavers) for road and highway projects. They must also bring proven entrepreneurial experience to drive cost-saving initiatives and asset optimization.
Role Overview
As the Plant & Machinery (P&M) Head, he will act as the backbone of our road and highway construction project operations. He will be responsible for the entire mechanical department, ensuring maximum equipment uptime, cost optimization, and strategic fleet management across various project sites in and around West Bengal.
Key Responsibilities
- Fleet Management: Oversee the procurement, deployment, operation, maintenance, and repair of all heavy construction machinery.
- Asset Availability: Ensure smooth daily operations of critical equipment including Hot Mix Plants, Batch Mix Plants, WMM Plants, Drum Mix Plants, Asphalt Pavers, and Tippers. Enhance uptime , organize regular schedule of preventive maintenance , plan to reduce overall break-down of company owned / hired equipments.
- Maintenance Strategy: Plan and implement strict preventive and breakdown maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
- Cost & Budgeting: Monitor machinery performance, fuel consumption, spare parts usage, and overall repair costs.
- Commercial Operations: Handle the purchasing, hiring, leasing, and disposal of machinery and spare parts.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, procurement, and site teams to ensure the timely availability of equipment.
- Compliance & Safety: Maintain strict compliance with safety, statutory, and environmental regulations relating to mechanical and plant operations.
- MIS & Reporting: Prepare mechanical reports, equipment tracking, and budgets for executive management.
Mandatory Candidate Requirements
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering.
- Experience: (20+) years of experience in the construction and infrastructure industry, specifically focused on roads and highways.
- Entrepreneurial Track Record: Must have successfully conceptualized, launched, and managed a couple of hands-on entrepreneurial ventures in the recent past (e.g., equipment rental companies, auto-component manufacturing, fleet logistics, or mechanical workshops).
- Location: Must be based in or willing to relocate to Kolkata, with the ability to travel to project sites as per site progress / functioning.
- Skills: Strong negotiation and vendor management skills, commercial acumen, and deep technical knowledge of heavy earthmoving and asphalt machinery to meet business priorities.
Pay: ₹175,000.00 - ₹180,000.00 per month
