Job Purpose
To prepare General Arrangement Drawings (GADs), detail engineering drawings, and piping isometrics for static equipment (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, air fin coolers, process columns, surface condensers) and associated piping, in full compliance with ASME, TEMA, and client-specific engineering standards, supporting fabrication, procurement, and project execution activities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pressure Vessels (ASME Section VIII Div. 1 & TEMA)
- Prepare GADs and detailed fabrication drawings for pressure vessels (vertical/horizontal, storage vessels, separators, reactors, drums) per ASME Section VIII Div. 1 requirements
- Develop nozzle orientation drawings, nozzle schedules, and reinforcement pad details
- Prepare shell, head, support (saddle/skirt/leg), and internals detail drawings
- Incorporate design engineering inputs (thickness calculations, MAWP, design temperature) accurately into drawings
- Coordinate with stress/design engineers for code compliance and revisions
2. Heat Exchangers
- Prepare GADs and detail drawings for shell-and-tube heat exchangers per TEMA classifications (R/C/B)
- Develop tube sheet layout, baffle arrangement, tube bundle, channel, and floating head detail drawings
- Prepare nozzle orientation and support drawings
- Ensure compliance with ASME Section VIII and TEMA dimensional/tolerance standards
3. Air Fin Coolers
- Prepare GADs for air-cooled heat exchanger (ACHE) bays, tube bundles, headers, and fan/plenum arrangements
- Develop structural support and bundle assembly detail drawings
- Coordinate with mechanical/process inputs for fin tube specifications and bundle configuration
4. Process Columns
- Prepare GADs and fabrication drawings for distillation/absorption columns, including tray/packing support details
- Develop internals arrangement drawings (trays, downcomers, packing supports, distributors, demister pads)
- Prepare nozzle schedules, manway, and platform/ladder interface details
5. Surface Condensers
- Prepare GADs and detail drawings for surface condensers, including waterbox, tube bundle, and shell assembly details
- Develop tube sheet layout and expansion joint details where applicable
- Coordinate dimensional interfaces with connecting piping and turbine/exhaust hood arrangements6. Piping Isometrics & BOM
- Prepare piping isometric drawings from P&IDs and plot plans/layout drawings
- Generate accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) — pipes, fittings, flanges, valves, gaskets, bolts — for each isometric
- Incorporate line class, insulation, painting, and stress-critical information onto isometrics
- Coordinate with piping stress and material engineers
- Ensure isometric revisions are tracked and BOM updated consistently with design changes
7. General Drafting & Documentation (All Equipment Types)
- Generate GADs (General Arrangement Drawings) and full detail engineering drawing packages suitable for fabrication and client approval
- Prepare drawing lists, revision registers, and maintain drawing numbering per project document control procedures
- Incorporate client comments/markups (IFR, IFA, IFC stages) into drawing revisions
- Ensure drawings comply with applicable codes (ASME, TEMA), client specifications, and project- specific drafting standards
- Coordinate with QA/QC, procurement, and fabrication teams to resolve drawing-related queries (RFIs)
- Maintain drawing quality, consistency, and adherence to project drafting standards/templates
Required Qualifications
- Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D drafting mandatory); working knowledge of 3D modeling software (e.g., PDMS, SP3D, Inventor, SolidWorks) is an additional advantage
- Sound working knowledge of ASME Section VIII Div. 1 and TEMA standards
- Experience preparing piping isometrics and BOMs from P&IDs
Key Skills
- Strong interpretation of P&IDs, GA drawings, and design calculation sheets
- Attention to detail in dimensional accuracy, tolerancing, and code compliance
- Ability to coordinate with multi-discipline engineering teams (process, mechanical, piping stress, QA/QC)
- Good understanding of fabrication and welding symbols/terminology
- Time management skills to handle multiple drawing packages under project deadlines
- Experience working with document control systems (EDMS) for drawing transmittals and revision tracking.
