ICU Nurses

Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Monitoring Continuously monitor vital signs, detect changes in symptoms, and respond to any signs of deterioration or improvement.
- Medication Administration Administer medications, including intravenous infusions, and monitor their effectiveness while observing for adverse reactions.
- Advanced Life Support Provide support for breathing and other vital functions for patients in critical condition, which may include using ventilators and other life-support machines.
- Patient Care Plans Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs and in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Family Support Communicate with patients’ families, providing updates on treatment plans and educating them on the patient’s condition, prognosis, and ongoing care needs.
- Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
- Documentation Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting all care, observations, and treatment interventions.
- Infection Control Implement and maintain strict infection control measures to prevent the spread of infection to or from critically ill patients.
Education Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is increasingly preferred; however, an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) is also acceptable.
- Licensure/Certification: Must hold a current Registered Nurse (RN) license. Certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) is highly regarded and may be required by some employers.
Experience:
Experience in an acute care setting is typically required, with specific training or experience in critical care or intensive care nursing highly preferred.

- Clinical Skills: Proficiency in clinical skills specific to critical care, such as advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS), patient ventilation, and rapid assessment skills.
- Decision-Making: Ability to make quick, informed decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Emotional Stability: Capacity to cope with high-stress environments and manage emotional responses to patient suffering, trauma, and death.
- Attention to Detail: Vigilance in monitoring patient conditions and a meticulous approach to administering treatments and medications.
- Communication: Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with healthcare teams and for providing clear explanations to patients and families.
- Compassion: A compassionate approach to care that encompasses empathy for patients and their families facing life-threatening conditions.
