A. Lactation Assessment & Counseling
- Assess mothers and newborns for breastfeeding and lactation-related concerns.
- Provide individualized breastfeeding counseling based on the mother's and baby's needs.
- Educate mothers regarding the benefits of breastfeeding and recommended breastfeeding practices.
- Assess breastfeeding technique, positioning, attachment, and effective milk transfer.
- Identify common breastfeeding difficulties and provide appropriate guidance.
- Support mothers in developing confidence and skills for breastfeeding.
B. Breastfeeding Support
- Provide hands-on support for correct positioning and attachment.
- Educate mothers on feeding frequency, feeding cues, and effective breastfeeding techniques.
- Support mothers experiencing delayed lactation or concerns regarding milk supply.
- Provide guidance on breast care and management of common breastfeeding concerns.
- Educate mothers regarding safe expression, collection, storage, and handling of breast milk.
- Support mothers who are temporarily separated from their newborns in maintaining lactation.
C. NICU / Special-Care Support
- Provide lactation support to mothers of preterm, low-birth-weight, and medically compromised newborns in coordination with the Neonatology/Pediatric team.
- Support mothers with expressed breast milk for babies admitted to NICU/Special Care areas.
- Educate mothers regarding pumping and maintaining milk supply when direct breastfeeding is temporarily not possible.
- Coordinate with NICU nurses and pediatric/neonatal teams regarding feeding plans.
- Escalate feeding difficulties or concerns requiring medical assessment to the appropriate clinician.
D. Postnatal & Antenatal Education
- Conduct antenatal breastfeeding counseling sessions where applicable.
- Provide breastfeeding education during antenatal classes and pregnancy counseling programs.
- Provide postnatal breastfeeding counseling before discharge.
- Educate mothers and families regarding newborn feeding practices and breastfeeding support at home.
- Reinforce exclusive breastfeeding recommendations as clinically appropriate.
E. Lactation Clinics / Follow-Up
- Conduct lactation consultation clinics as assigned.
- Follow up with mothers experiencing breastfeeding difficulties.
- Provide telephone/virtual follow-up where permitted by hospital policy.
- Maintain appropriate follow-up records.
- Identify mothers requiring referral to Obstetricians, Pediatricians, Neonatologists, or other specialists.
F. Education & Training
- Conduct breastfeeding awareness and education programs for mothers and families.
- Educate nursing staff and other relevant healthcare professionals regarding breastfeeding support practices.
- Participate in staff training, workshops, and continuing education programs.
- Promote a breastfeeding-friendly culture throughout the hospital.
G. Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of lactation assessments and counseling sessions.
- Document identified breastfeeding concerns, interventions, education provided, and follow-up plans.
- Maintain required departmental registers and records.
- Ensure documentation is completed in the HIS/EMR or approved hospital format.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and family information.
H. Patient Safety & Infection Prevention
- Follow hospital infection prevention and control policies.
- Follow appropriate hand hygiene and hygiene practices during breastfeeding assistance.
- Ensure breast pumps and other equipment are handled and cleaned according to hospital protocols.
- Maintain patient privacy and dignity during lactation consultations.
- Identify and escalate any maternal or neonatal condition requiring medical attention.
Pay: ₹22,000.00 - ₹28,000.00 per month
