Key Responsibilities
- Design and Develop Stamping Tools: Create high-precision progressive and compound dies
- Optimize for Manufacturability: Conduct DFM/DFA analysis on designs to optimize for stamping, material utilization, and cost.
- Conduct Feasibility Studies: Perform studies for new product designs and tool concepts, including material flow and tonnage calculations.
- Create Detailed Designs: Produce detailed 2D and 3D tool designs, including drawings and BOMs.
- Specify Tooling Components: Select appropriate tool steels, coatings, and standard components for die construction.
- Support Tool Manufacturing: Collaborate with the tool room during manufacturing, assembly, and try-out phases, providing technical support.
- Troubleshoot Tooling Issues: Identify and resolve production tooling problems, implementing corrective actions.
- Lead Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives for optimizing tool design and manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate on Product Design: Work with product teams to ensure new stator/rotor designs are optimized for stamping.
- Participate in Design Reviews: Offer expert advice on material selection, tolerances, and feature design for manufacturability.
- Analyze Cost Reduction Opportunities: Identify design modifications for material optimization and cost efficiency.
- Maintain Technical Documentation: Develop and manage design specifications, engineering drawings, and process sheets.
- Support Prototyping: Assist in the development and fabrication of new stator and rotor prototypes.
- Oversee Testing: Design and supervise testing protocols for new tools and components to validate performance.
- Analyze Test Data: Evaluate test results and recommend design revisions.
- Collaborate Cross-functionally: Work effectively with manufacturing, quality assurance, sales, and purchasing teams.
- Communicate Technical Information: Clearly convey complex technical details to various stakeholders.
- Mentor Junior Staff: Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and technicians.
- Stay Updated on Trends: Keep informed about industry trends, new technologies, and best practices.
- Ensure Design Compliance: Verify all designs adhere to relevant industry standards, safety, and quality procedures.
- Participate in Risk Assessment: Contribute to FMEA and other risk assessment activities.
- Implement Quality Improvements: Execute design changes based on root cause analysis of quality issues.
