Job Summary
The CNC/VMC Machine Operator is responsible for operating, setting up, and maintaining CNC (Computer Numerical Control) / VMC (Vertical Machining Center) machines to manufacture precision components as per engineering drawings. The role ensures accuracy, productivity, and adherence to quality standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesMachine Operation
- Operate CNC / VMC machines to produce parts as per specifications and production targets.
- Load/unload raw materials and finished components.
- Monitor machine operations and ensure smooth production.
Setup & Programming Support
- Perform basic machine setup, tool setting, and offsets adjustment.
- Assist in machine setup for new jobs and changeovers.
- Read and understand CNC programs (G-code basics preferred).
Tool Management
- Select, install, and align cutting tools as per job requirements.
- Monitor tool wear and replace tools when required.
- Maintain tool records and inventory.
Quality Control
- Inspect parts using measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, gauges, and height gauges.
- Ensure components meet drawing specifications and tolerance levels.
- Identify defects and take corrective actions.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform routine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance of machines.
- Report machine faults, abnormal sounds, or breakdowns.
- Coordinate with maintenance team for repairs.
Safety & Housekeeping
- Follow all safety procedures and use PPE (safety shoes, gloves, goggles).
- Ensure proper handling of cutting tools and materials.
- Maintain 5S standards on shop floor.
Production Reporting
- Record production data, cycle time, rejection, and downtime.
- Report daily output to supervisor.
Qualifications & RequirementsEducation
- ITI (Turner / Machinist) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- CNC/VMC certification preferred
Experience
- 1–5 years experience in CNC/VMC machine operation
- Experience in precision machining preferred
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of CNC/VMC machine operation
- Basic understanding of G-code / M-code
- Ability to read engineering drawings
- Familiarity with measuring instruments
- Understanding of tolerances and fits
