Fabric Follow-up Executive – Top 10 Roles & Responsibilities (Knitwear Industry)
- Fabric Development & Sourcing: Coordinate with merchandising and suppliers for fabric developments, approvals, and timely sourcing as per buyer requirements.
- Production Follow-up: Monitor knitting, dyeing, finishing, printing, and compacting processes to ensure fabric is produced according to the Time & Action (T&A) plan.
- Quality Compliance: Ensure fabrics meet approved specifications for GSM, width, shade, shrinkage, spirality, hand feel, and appearance before bulk production.
- Vendor Coordination: Maintain regular follow-up with knitting mills, dyeing units, and fabric suppliers to ensure on-time delivery and resolve production issues.
- Fabric Inspection & Testing: Coordinate fabric inspections and laboratory testing to ensure compliance with buyer and company quality standards.
- Delivery Management: Track fabric production status and ensure on-time fabric availability for cutting and garment production, minimizing delays.
- Inventory & Fabric Control: Monitor grey and finished fabric stock, fabric receipts, consumption, and balance quantities to prevent shortages or excess inventory.
- Cross-functional Coordination: Work closely with Merchandising, Planning, Production, Quality, Stores, and Logistics teams to ensure seamless material flow.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of fabric bookings, approvals, test reports, inspection reports, delivery status, and prepare daily/weekly progress reports.
- Problem Solving & Cost Control: Identify potential risks, resolve fabric-related issues proactively, control processing costs, reduce fabric wastage, and support smooth execution of customer orders.
Mandatory Fabric Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of knitted fabric types (Single Jersey, Rib, Interlock, Pique, Fleece, French Terry, etc.).
- Understanding of fabric construction, GSM, width, yarn count, shrinkage, spirality, and shade control.
- Knowledge of knitting, dyeing, finishing, compacting, printing, and washing processes.
- Familiarity with fabric defects, inspection methods (4-Point System), and quality standards.
- Ability to interpret buyer specifications, coordinate with suppliers, and use ERP/MS Excel for fabric
