Job Description – Junior Interior Designer
Primary Responsibilities
A Junior Interior Designer is responsible for producing high-quality project design deliverables and supporting the senior design team throughout all phases of project development. This includes Pre-Design, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, and Construction Administration. The role demands a strong design sensibility, attention to detail, and the ability to translate client needs into functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces. They report to the Design Associate or Senior Designer to ensure the project is completed on time, within budget, and meets design and quality standards.
Roles:
- Assist in the design and execution of retail or hospitality interior projects from concept to completion.
- Understand the client’s goals, brand identity, and functional requirements.
- Support the team in interpreting customer needs into initial space planning and concept sketches.
- Collaborate with senior designers, architects, and external consultants throughout all project phases.
- Create and develop mood boards, material palettes, and design presentations.
- Prepare schematic designs, finish selections, detailed installation drawings, and schedules.
- Update and revise drawings as per architectural changes or client feedback.
- Participate in sourcing and selection of materials, finishes, lighting, and furniture.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for procurement and timely delivery of materials.
- Conduct site visits to monitor progress, ensure design compliance, and assist in resolving on-site issues.
- Ensure project quality and design intent are maintained during execution.
- Provide ongoing support in preparing client presentations and participating in review meetings.
- Stay updated on current design trends, material innovations, and industry practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or related field.
- Professional experience in interior design, preferably in retail or hospitality projects.
- Proficiency in design software including SketchUp, AutoCAD, and Photoshop.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Detail-oriented with a creative and problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
- Knowledge of materials, finishes, lighting, and furniture suitable for commercial environments is a plus.
