Yantra 24x7 builds IoT gateways, edge computing hardware, and machine connectivity devices that form the hardware layer of our industrial monitoring platform. Our embedded team develops firmware for custom PCBs, IoT edge nodes, and protocol converters that bridge factory machines to the cloud. This internship is an opportunity to work on real production hardware — not simulation exercises.
Role Overview
As an Embedded Systems Intern, you will work alongside our hardware and firmware engineers to develop, test, and debug embedded firmware for IoT edge devices and protocol converter modules. You will write Embedded C code, work with communication peripherals (SPI, I2C, UART), and help integrate microcontroller-based hardware with Yantra's IoT platform. This is a hands-on internship — expect to work with real hardware on a real engineering team.
What You Will Work On
Firmware Development
- Write and test Embedded C firmware for microcontrollers — STM32, ESP32, Arduino, PIC, or AVR — for IoT gateway and edge device applications
- Develop peripheral drivers for communication interfaces — SPI (sensors, flash memory), I2C (sensors, displays, RTC), UART (GPS, GSM, RS-485 converters, debug console)
- Implement communication stacks — Modbus RTU over RS-485, MQTT over Wi-Fi/Ethernet, and HTTP/REST APIs from embedded devices
- Work on bare-metal firmware and RTOS-based (FreeRTOS) applications depending on project requirements
- Write interrupt service routines (ISRs), DMA configurations, and power management routines for low-power IoT nodes
Hardware Integration & Testing
- Read and interpret circuit schematics and PCB layouts to understand hardware design for firmware development
- Use lab instruments — oscilloscope, logic analyser, multimeter, and protocol analysers — to debug SPI, I2C, UART signal integrity issues
- Perform bring-up of new PCB revisions — boot firmware, test peripherals, validate communication interfaces
- Assist with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and validation of IoT edge devices before client deployment
IoT Platform Integration
- Develop firmware routines that collect machine data from sensors and PLCs and publish to Yantra's IoT broker using MQTT
- Implement Over-the-Air (OTA) firmware update mechanisms for deployed edge devices
- Work on data parsing, buffering, and retry logic for reliable data transmission in intermittent connectivity environments
- Help test and validate end-to-end data flow: sensor → microcontroller → gateway → cloud platform → dashboard
Documentation & Collaboration
- Maintain firmware version documentation, changelog, and code comments to engineering standards
- Write test plans and test reports for firmware features and hardware integration tests
- Participate in team stand-ups, sprint demos, and design review discussions
- Collaborate with PCB hardware designers and software backend team for end-to-end integration
Who Should Apply
