1. Position Summary
The Medical Gas Operator – Oxygen Plant is responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the hospital oxygen plant and medical gas systems. The role ensures uninterrupted supply of medical gases (oxygen, medical air, vacuum where applicable) to all clinical areas, complying with safety standards, statutory norms, and hospital policies to support continuous patient care.
Job Duties
1. Oxygen Plant Operation
- Operate and monitor the oxygen plant as per standard operating procedures.
- Ensure uninterrupted supply of medical oxygen to wards, ICUs, OTs, emergency, and other patient care areas.
- Monitor pressure levels, flow rates, purity levels, alarms, and system parameters.
2. Medical Gas System Monitoring
- Monitor medical gas pipeline systems, manifolds, and outlet points.
- Identify and report any leakage, pressure drop, alarm activation, or abnormal functioning immediately.
- Ensure proper functioning of backup systems (cylinder banks / liquid oxygen backups).
3. Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety protocols related to oxygen handling and medical gas operations.
- Ensure fire safety, electrical safety, and hazard prevention measures are strictly followed.
- Participate in mock drills, emergency preparedness, and disaster management related to medical gases.
- Maintain compliance with NABH/JCI and statutory safety requirements.
4. Maintenance & Coordination
- Perform routine checks, basic maintenance, and cleaning of oxygen plant equipment.
- Coordinate with engineering, biomedical teams, and external vendors for preventive and breakdown maintenance.
- Assist during calibration, testing, and validation of oxygen purity and pressure systems.
5. Documentation & Records
- Maintain daily operation logs, pressure readings, alarm records, and maintenance checklists.
- Record cylinder usage, refilling details, and backup consumption.
- Report incidents, near misses, or deviations as per hospital policy.
6. Emergency & On-Call Support
- Respond immediately to emergency calls related to oxygen or medical gas supply.
- Support rapid restoration of supply during breakdowns or power failures.
- Be available for shift duties, night duty, and emergency on-call support.
7. Coordination with Clinical Areas
- Communicate proactively with nursing staff, ICU teams, and OT teams regarding any planned maintenance or issues.
- Ensure minimal disruption to patient care during maintenance activities.
Pay: From ₹15,000.00 per month
