A Quality Inspector in the automotive manufacturing industry ensures that all parts, assemblies, and finished vehicles meet rigid safety and design standards. They conduct physical inspections, run diagnostic tests, log non-conformance issues, and prevent defective products from reaching assembly lines or the final consumer.
Key Responsibilities
- Component Inspection: Perform visual and dimensional checks on raw materials (Incoming), in-process sub-assemblies, and final vehicle assemblies against engineering blueprints and specifications.
- Precision Testing: Use highly accurate measuring instruments such as Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauges, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
- Defect Management: Identify, segregate, and document any non-conforming or defective parts. Initiate process corrections with production floor managers.
- Documentation & Compliance: Log inspection data and track defects into the quality database. Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 international automotive standards.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all measurement tools and gauges remain properly calibrated and operational.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: ITI, Diploma, or Degree in Mechanical, Automobile, or Production Engineering.
- Technical Skills: Strong ability to read engineering drawings, blueprints, and basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) schemas.
- Experience: Typically 0-3 years in the auto component or precision engineering industry, though entry-level trainee roles are common.
- Physical & Soft Skills: Extreme attention to detail, good eyesight, analytical problem-solving, and basic computer skills (e.g., MS Excel) for record-keeping.
