The Role
As a Piping Engineer Level II with Worley, you will work closely with our existing team to deliver projects for our clients while continuing to develop your skills and experience etc.
- Piping Design & Layout Engineering:
- Develop piping layouts for mining, mineral processing, and metal extraction facilities based on P&IDs, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and client specifications.
- Ensure the layout design optimizes space, operational efficiency, and ease of installation while meeting industry safety and environmental standards.
- Prepare detailed piping design drawings, including routing, support placement, and equipment integration.
- Coordinate the layout of piping systems with other engineering disciplines such as civil, mechanical, and electrical to ensure seamless integration.
- Select appropriate materials for piping systems based on factors such as fluid type, temperature, pressure, and environmental conditions.
- FEED (Front-End Engineering Design):
- Participate in the FEED phase of projects, assisting in the development of piping layouts and preliminary designs.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to define project scope, estimate costs, and identify potential design challenges.
- Review client specifications and ensure the design aligns with technical, budgetary, and scheduling requirements.
- Contribute to the development of initial piping design concepts, material take-offs, and cost estimates.
- Detailed Engineering Design:
- Prepare detailed engineering designs for the full scope of piping systems, including pipe sizes, materials, valves, and fittings, as well as system integration.
- Use S3D, E3D, AutoCAD, Microstation, Plant 3D, or similar CAD software to develop accurate piping design drawings and layouts.
- Coordinate with the stress analysis team to address any piping support and stress-related issues.
- Ensure that all piping designs comply with applicable industry standards and codes (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI, etc.).
- Layout Optimization:
- Optimize piping layout designs for both new projects and modifications to existing plants by minimizing material usage, reducing installation time, and enhancing operational efficiency.
- Review existing designs to identify potential areas for improvement and ensure that the piping layout adheres to best practices and operational needs.
- Coordination & Communication:
- Work closely with internal teams, clients, contractors, and vendors to ensure the timely and successful completion of projects.
- Participate in 3D design reviews, safety meetings, and project coordination meetings to track progress and mitigate risks.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication regarding project milestones, design changes, and any potential challenges.
- Quality Control & Compliance:
- Ensure the piping design meets quality standards and safety regulations in accordance with project requirements, local regulations, and industry codes.
- Perform thorough checks to confirm design accuracy, material selection, and compliance with specifications.
About You
To be considered for this role it is envisaged you will possess the following attributes:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in piping design, layout engineering, and detailed engineering in the mining, mineral, and metal industries or related heavy industries.
- Proficient in S3D, E3D, AutoCAD, Microstation, Plant 3D, or similar 3D CAD software used for piping design.
- In-depth knowledge of piping codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI, ISO) and the ability to apply them effectively in design.
- Experience in FEED and detailed design phases of projects, from initial concept to final design.
- Familiarity with stress analysis and material selection for various operating conditions (pressure, temperature, and corrosion resistance).
- Strong understanding of piping layout principles, including routing, spacing, support design, and integration with equipment and structures.
- Experience working on large-scale mining or metallurgical plant projects.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and coordination skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
