Role: Senior Commvault Engineer – Infrastructure & Data Protection

Working schedule: 12pm-9pm IST/ on call support 24/7

Introduction to the job:
We are seeking a Senior Commvault Engineer with 8+ years of hands-on experience who operates at a level of mastery that leaves Commvault support engineers in awe. This role is for someone who thrives in complex environments, understands systems and networks at a granular level, and can architect and troubleshoot backup solutions with surgical precision. You’ll be the go-to expert for all things Commvault, with deep knowledge of Windows Server and RHEL , networking , routing , and firewall configurations , and a strong grasp of automation using Ansible .
Some of the things you'll be doing:
- Architect, implement, and maintain enterprise-grade Commvault backup and recovery solutions across physical and virtual infrastructures.
- Act as the highest-level escalation point for Commvault-related issues, often resolving challenges faster and more effectively than vendor support.
- Design and optimize backup policies, storage targets, deduplication strategies, and disaster recovery workflows.
- Perform deep-dive troubleshooting across OS layers (Windows/RHEL), storage subsystems, and network paths to ensure data integrity and performance.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams to align backup strategies with business continuity goals.
- Lead Commvault upgrades, patching, and performance tuning initiatives.
- Develop and maintain documentation, runbooks, and automation scripts for backup operations.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership across the organization.
- Elite Commvault troubleshooting & logs — Expert at isolating issues across CommServe, Media Agents, clients, DDB/indexing, aux copies, Hyperscale/cloud libraries; reads and traces the right logs by symptom
- Vendor-of-last-resort — Resolves the vast majority of incidents in-house; when opening Commvault support tickets, they’re rare, high ‑ complexity, pre-triaged with hypotheses and artifacts, and typically escalate to L3/L4 engineering due to depth.
Forensic RCA + cross ‑ stack fluency — Reconstructs failure timelines from logs/events/telemetry, delivers clear RCAs and durable fixes

What qualification or skillsets you'll need?
- 8+ years of experience with Commvault in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex backup issues independently.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server internals and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) , including system services, kernel-level operations, and performance tuning.
- Expertise in networking fundamentals : TCP/IP, routing, VLANs, firewalls, NAT, DNS, and VPNs.
- Experience with storage technologies : SAN/NAS, snapshots, replication, and deduplication.
- Proficiency in Ansible for automation and configuration management.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience integrating Commvault with ServiceNow, monitoring tools, or SIEM platforms.
- Familiarity with backup strategies for virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V, AHV).
- Exposure to compliance frameworks and secure data handling practices.
