Key Responsibilities
- Contractor Supervision: Act as the client’s on-site technical representative to monitor, audit, and direct the EPC contractor’s track-linking, ballasting, and tamping workflows.
- Design & Proofreading: Review, audit, and approve technical designs, horizontal/vertical track alignments, and layout drawings submitted by the construction contractor prior to physical execution.
- Quality Assurance Monitoring: Execute rigorous field quality checks on civil track formation, sub-grade stabilization, and structural track geometry standards (gauge, cross-levels, and longitudinal levels).
- Material & Asset Inspection: Inspect and verify incoming P.Way heavy freight components, including concrete sleepers, high-tonnage rails, turnout switches, and mechanical rail fittings.
- Welding Oversight: Supervise and verify rail welding operations (Aluminothermic/Flash-butt) and Continuous Welded Rail (CWR) stressing tolerances suited to local ambient temperature shifts.
- Progress Verification & Billing: Check, measure, and certify actual on-site work quantities completed to validate contractor invoices and progress logs.
- Safety & Environmental Enforcement: Enforce strict rail-site safety parameters, line-possession block procedures, and E&S action plans (e.g., protecting surrounding wildlife corridors and managing old sleeper disposal).
Required Technical Skills
- Heavy Freight Standards: Proficient understanding of heavy axle-load track structures, deep ballast requirements, and high-capacity freight line tolerances.
- Site Survey Analysis: Ability to accurately interpret total-station survey metrics, track-recording car data, and electronic gauge logs.
- Software Competency: Practical familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or OpenRail to read, overlay, and audit multi-layered railway alignment designs.
- Language Fluency: Professional working proficiency in French is highly advantageous for coordinating with local workers and port/rail authorities, alongside English for reporting
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
- Experience: Exactly 5 years of active field experience in railway track-laying, line rehabilitation, or private siding projects, ideally within a PMC or engineering consultancy framework.
- Travel & Relocation: Valid passport and willingness to travel to Gabon
- Health Requirements: Possession of (or willingness to obtain) a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required for regional deployment
