Please note: this is a full-time, in-house position. We are not able to consider candidates who intend to continue other freelance or agency work alongside it, and we are looking for someone who can commit to at least one year.
About the company
Penrose Collective owns and operates a growing portfolio of premium short-term rental homes and event venues across the United States. These include a seven-bedroom wedding estate near Dallas, cabins in Virginia's Blue Ridge mountains, and a lake cabin in the Catskills, New York. The company is owner-operated by a husband-and-wife team and has been built over the last two years.
Each property is marketed as its own brand, with its own audience and its own visual identity. Our flagship, The Penrose House, is a private estate 35 minutes from Dallas with a pool, gardens and a swim-up bar. It is rented for micro-weddings: small ceremonies, elopements, and wedding weekends where the whole family stays on the property.
The positioning is what makes it interesting to market. We are not competing with other rental homes. We are competing with the destination wedding a bride would like to have but cannot ask her family to travel for. The Penrose House looks like a far-away, expensive venue, but it is half an hour from home and everyone can attend.
Every property has its own version of that idea. One is quiet and slow-paced, dark and moody in tone, with no internet. Another is family-friendly, pet-friendly and suited to groups in the mountains. The same company, but brands that should not look alike. Our audience is based in the United States, so familiarity with that market is more important than location.
Job overview
You will own social media content for the entire portfolio: 5 to 6 accounts across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and Pinterest, with more added as new properties open. You will report directly to the owner. There is no manager in between and no other person on the content team.
Key responsibilities
- Plan what we post and explain the reasoning. You propose the plan; we approve, decline, or defer, and we will tell you which.
- Carry out the research behind the plan: competitor accounts, formats, trending audio, and the keywords brides search for on Pinterest and TikTok. We expect you to stay current on this without being prompted.
- Set the visual direction and grid aesthetic for each brand, keeping them distinct from one another.
- Edit short-form video. This will be the largest part of your week.
- Colour-correct and colour-grade footage. Much of our material is user-generated, shot on different phones in different months and lighting conditions, and needs to be matched to a consistent look for each brand.
- Schedule and publish content on time, every week.
- Manage Pinterest as a search platform. It is where a large share of our enquiries begin.
- Review performance after posting and report what you learned, not only the numbers.
As you become established in the role, the scope will extend to newsletters, email campaigns, Pinterest board design, LinkedIn, and a group brand account.
Footage and photography are provided. This is an editing role, not a filming role.
Content volume
Approximately 20 to 24 pieces per account, per platform, per month, which works out to around 20 to 25 video edits per week across the portfolio, in addition to daily Instagram stories. The same concept is often re-cut for different platforms, with a different hook, pace or audio track for each. This volume is the reason the position is full-time and in-house rather than freelance, and we would encourage you to consider it carefully before applying.
First six months
- Weeks 1 to 2: two accounts on Instagram and Facebook, while you learn the brands.
- By day 45: all accounts and all platforms.
- First 90 days: no fixed targets. We will assess consistency, your understanding of the brands, and how well we work together. The strategy is built jointly during this period.
- Day 90: a detailed review with both owners covering analytics and advertising performance. Targets are set from this point, with your input on what is realistic. Compensation is reviewed at the same time.
- Day 180: booking conversions become the primary measure of success.
We hold a 30 to 60 minute call every working day, in your morning and our evening, to review the previous day and plan the current one. The remainder of your day is yours to work independently.
Who we are looking for
- You have managed accounts where you set the direction, not only written the captions.
- You research before you decide, and you can explain your reasoning.
- Your edits do not need to be reworked afterwards.
- You can justify a creative choice and describe the alternative you rejected.
- You are willing to tell us when you believe we are wrong, from the guest's point of view.
This role may not suit you if you prefer to receive a detailed brief before starting, if you apply a standard template to each client, or if you would rather execute a strategy set by someone else.
Required skills and tools
- Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects, current versions, on a valid licence. Candidates will be asked to demonstrate proficiency during the selection process. CapCut and Canva may be used as supporting tools but cannot be your primary editing software.
- Colour correction and colour grading, including matching inconsistent source footage to a single look.
- Minimum 2 years of short-form video editing for brands, or a portfolio that clearly demonstrates equivalent capability.
- Captions, motion graphics, transitions, sound design and visual storytelling.
- Written English of publishable standard. Captions are published as you write them.
- A reliable high-speed internet connection, a computer capable of running Adobe software, and availability for the daily morning call.
Preferred: DaVinci Resolve · auto-captioning tools · Adobe Photoshop · scheduling tools such as Meta Business Suite, Later or Metricool · Tailwind for Pinterest
