Job Summary
The Consultant General Surgeon is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and surgically managing a wide range of medical conditions requiring operative intervention. The surgeon provides outpatient consultations, inpatient care, emergency surgical services, and performs elective and emergency surgeries while ensuring high standards of patient safety, clinical excellence, and ethical practice.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities
- Conduct outpatient consultations and assess patients with surgical conditions.
- Diagnose and manage general surgical disorders affecting the gastrointestinal tract, abdominal organs, soft tissues, skin, breast, and thyroid.
- Evaluate patients for surgical intervention and determine appropriate treatment plans.
- Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care.
- Monitor patient recovery and manage surgical complications when necessary.
- Coordinate care with physicians, anesthesiologists, intensivists, and other specialists.
Surgical Responsibilities
- Perform elective and emergency surgical procedures within the scope of General Surgery.
- Conduct procedures such as:
- Appendectomy
- Hernia Repair
- Cholecystectomy
- Hemorrhoidectomy
- Abscess Drainage
- Breast Surgeries
- Thyroid Surgeries
- Gastrointestinal Surgeries
- Laparoscopic Surgical Procedures
- Trauma and Emergency Surgical Interventions
- Ensure adherence to surgical safety protocols and infection control standards.
- Maintain accurate operative notes and surgical documentation.
Emergency Services
- Attend surgical emergencies on-call and provide timely interventions.
- Manage trauma and acute surgical cases presenting to the Emergency Department.
- Coordinate emergency surgical care with multidisciplinary teams.
Patient Education & Counseling
- Explain diagnoses, treatment options, risks, and expected outcomes to patients and families.
- Obtain informed consent before surgical procedures.
- Provide guidance regarding post-operative care and lifestyle modifications.
Quality & Compliance
- Maintain complete and accurate patient records.
- Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality improvement programs.
- Adhere to NABH standards, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with ethical and professional medical practices.
Academic & Administrative Responsibilities
- Participate in departmental meetings and case discussions.
- Support the training and mentoring of junior doctors, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
- Contribute to hospital health camps, awareness programs, and community outreach activities.
Required Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- MS/DNB in General Surgery.
- Valid registration with the appropriate Medical Council.
Experience
- Minimum 1–5 years of post-specialization experience preferred.
- Freshly qualified surgeons may be considered based on hospital requirements.

Working Conditions
- Hospital-based environment involving OPD, IPD, Operation Theatre (OT), ICU, and Emergency Department.
- Participation in emergency calls, on-call duties, and surgical coverage as required.
Pay: ₹13,838.76 - ₹106,269.58 per month
