Key Responsibilities
1. Product & Process Engineering
- Lead design, development, and validation of auto components manufactured through MFPD / press forming processes
- Ensure feasibility of designs with respect to tooling, dies, material selection, and press capacity
- Drive DFMEA, PFMEA, APQP, PPAP, and Control Plans
- Support new product development from concept to SOP
2. Tooling & Die Development
- Oversee die design, die trials, and die optimization
- Coordinate with tool room, die makers, and external vendors
- Ensure reduction in die try-outs, rework, and downtime
3. Manufacturing Support & Process Improvement
- Optimize press shop processes for productivity, yield, and cycle time
- Drive cost reduction, scrap reduction, and efficiency improvement initiatives
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Six Sigma practices
- Resolve complex manufacturing and quality issues
4. Quality & Customer Interface
- Ensure compliance with OEM standards and automotive quality systems (IATF 16949)
- Act as the technical interface with customers for design reviews, engineering changes, and audits
- Lead root cause analysis for customer complaints and field issues
5. Project Management
- Lead new program launches within defined timelines and budgets
- Coordinate cross-functional teams (Production, Quality, SCM, Maintenance)
- Monitor project milestones, risks, and resource allocation
6. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team (design, process, tooling)
- Build strong technical capability and succession planning
- Set KPIs and review performance regularly
Key Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of MFPD / Press Forming / Sheet Metal processes
- Experience with BIW or structural auto components
- Proficiency in CAD tools (CATIA / NX / AutoCAD)
- Deep understanding of dies, presses, materials (HSLA, CR steel, aluminum)
- Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and validation methods
