How will you make an impact in this role?
The SOX Advisory and Analytics team drives proactive advisory services across finance and business processes by embedding controls in change initiatives, upstream processes, and system transformations, ensuring strong financial reporting integrity and regulatory compliance. The team utilizes a robust governance framework and testing program to manage financial reporting risk in compliance with the company’s 2LOD objectives and requirements of the Sarbanes Oxley Act.
The candidate will act as a central SOX advisor to our Finance, Business and Technology teams. Support to identify financial reporting risks in upstream and downstream processes (not limited to finance). Translate business activities into financial reporting impact of SOX applicability. The success of this role involves driving results through extensive engagement and close collaboration with multiple stakeholders including Operational Risk Management (ORM), Business Unit Control Management teams, business process owners, controllership functions, internal audit and external audit teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review, assess risk and evaluate AXP business processes for financial reporting risk collaborating with stakeholders.
- Review process designs, BRD’s, system configurations and DFD’s to identify control gaps.
- Provide SOX risk advisory specific support to enterprise-wide large-scale initiatives including new products, and capabilities.
- Embed SOX considerations into automation, platform modernization initiatives and new product launches.
- Advise Business Tech partners around implementation and delivery of automated solutions processes, which impact AXP’s internal controls over financial reporting
- Utilize a risk-based approach to evaluate high risk areas having internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) impact
- Perform targeted risk assessments for key initiatives and processes.
- Lead conversations with risk program leads and 2LOD to assess strategy for integrating ICFR needs into the risk framework from time to time.
- Provide technical SOX and ICFR guidance and advisory to the AXP enterprise through targeted training to increase awareness and understanding of SOX including internal control framework.
- Compile best practices and learnings from historical initiatives, and leverage to support risk identification
Minimum Qualifications:
- CA/MBA/CPA with minimum 8 years of diverse experience
- Strong understanding of AXP Financial Accounting & Reporting practices/policies/systems
- Experience in banking/ financial services as an advantage
- Experience in SOX, Internal Audit, risk advisory or financial controls.
- Proven experience in actively supporting enterprise-wide transformational initiatives
- Able to leverage technologies and AI solutions to make processes more efficient and effective
- Intellectually curious and seeks out challenging opportunities outside of comfort zone
- Exhibits strong gravitas & executive presence
- Ability to handle a high-pressure environment, decision making in challenging situations
- Knowledge of Business intelligence Tools, such Power BI, Tableau, advanced excel
- Ability to build positive relationships and influence across various levels in the organization
- Demonstrated experience understanding risk assessment of IT processes, examining IT controls, and evaluating their design and operational effectiveness
- Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact with and obtain buy-in from senior counterparts
