Job Title
Tech Product Manager - Platforms
Job Description
So, who are we?
IG is a FTSE 100 fintech operating across five continents, serving over 1.3m customers and handling billions of dollars in transactions – built on scale, trust, and proof. We didn't pivot to innovation; it's how we've always operated. What that means for the people who work here is real: genuinely complex problems to solve, the technology and resources to tackle them properly, and the kind of scope that's rare in established businesses.
The bar is high – bring a curious and forward-thinking mindset and we'll give you the platform to define what comes next. Join us at IG – the future gets built here.
About the role
IG's infrastructure platform underpins every product, trade, and customer interaction across the business and it needs a product mind to drive it forward. As Platform PM in the Infrastructure & Operations team, you will own the vision, strategy, and success measures for IG's internal platform products: from cloud infrastructure on AWS to API gateway (Kong), storage platforms, and other shared engineering services. You will bring discipline and direction to a fragmented landscape, turning a collection of capabilities into a coherent, developer-first platform that engineering teams across IG rely on.
About the team
This role sits within the Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) Product team, part of IG's broader Technology division. The I&O team is accountable for the shared engineering platforms that every product and engineering squad across IG depends on, the foundational layer that makes scale, reliability, and velocity possible.
The team operates a platform-as-a-product model: internal engineering customers spanning software, data, and security, surface needs, and the I&O team prioritises, builds, and ships. You will be the product voice in that model, setting direction and working in close partnership with engineering leads to deliver outcomes that matter to the business.
You will report into the Senior Platform Product Manager and work alongside platform engineers, architects, and SREs, as well as senior technology and business stakeholders across IG's global operations.
What you’ll do
Key responsibilities
Platform strategy & vision
Define and maintain a clear product vision and multi-horizon roadmap for IG's internal infrastructure platform, spanning cloud infrastructure, APIs, storage, and shared engineering services.
Rationalise a fragmented platform landscape: identify overlaps, gaps, and strategic dependencies, and drive prioritised consolidation with clear rationale and stakeholder alignment.
Establish and track meaningful success measures on developer experience, platform reliability, adoption, and total cost of ownership to demonstrate platform value to engineering and business leadership.
Discovery & customer insight
Run structured discovery with internal engineering customers, software, data, and security teams to surface unmet needs, pain points, and adoption blockers.
Translate complex, sometimes conflicting engineering requirements into clear, prioritised product decisions that balance short-term demand with long-term platform health.
Act as the primary product interface for engineering squads consuming platform services, ensuring the platform-as-a-product model operates effectively.
Delivery & execution
Own the platform product backlog: write clear, outcome-focused epics and stories, maintain prioritisation, and ensure the engineering team always has well-defined, high-value work to deliver.
Drive delivery in close partnership with platform engineers and architects, balancing feature development, reliability investment, and platform debt reduction.
Ensure new platform capabilities are adopted effectively, with appropriate documentation, enablement, and self-service tooling for consuming teams.
Stakeholder management & governance
Build and maintain strong relationships with senior technology stakeholders and engineering leads across IG's global engineering population.
Provide clear, evidence-based recommendations on platform direction, trade-offs, and investment priorities to the Head of I&O Product and Technology leadership.
Represent platform product interests in broader technology governance, architectural review, and planning processes.
What you’ll need for this role
Role requirements
10+ years of overall experience, including proven experience as a product manager working on internal developer platforms, infrastructure products, or shared engineering services, with a track record of delivering measurable
Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts, particularly AWS, and the ability to engage credibly with platform engineers on technical trade-offs without needing to make implementation decisions.
Experience rationalising or consolidating fragmented technology landscapes identifying overlaps, sequencing change, and driving alignment across engineering stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to define product success measures for platform or infrastructure contexts, going beyond output metrics to outcomes that matter to the business.
Strong discovery and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with a broad and technically sophisticated internal customer base.
Comfortable operating in ambiguous, evolving environments where product structure and ways of working need to be shaped as much as inherited.
Desirable
Familiarity with platform engineering principles including golden paths, internal developer portals, self-service infrastructure and how they translate into product decisions.
Experience working in a fintech, financial services, or similarly regulated industry.
Exposure to platform-as-a-product operating models, including internal SLA frameworks and FinOps chargeback or show back models.
Background in or strong familiarity with SRE or DevOps practices and how platform product decisions intersect with reliability and operational excellence.
Hands-on experience with API gateway technologies, particularly Kong.
