Job Summary
The GA/ARC Senior Analyst will play a critical role in supporting retail accounting operations for bp’s Americas business, reporting to the Team Lead. The role requires strong subject matter expertise in retail accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, controls, and issue resolution, with the ability to manage complex accounting scenarios independently and provide guidance to analysts within the team. The incumbent will partner with cross-functional collaborators to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong governance, timely close delivery, and continuous process improvement in a dynamic shared services environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a subject matter expert for M&C Americas Retail accounting processes, supporting accurate and timely accounting of retail transactions, reconciliations, and period-end close activities.
- Review and analyze high-volume, high-complexity retail accounting entries, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with internal policies and accounting standards.
- Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations, investigate aged or unreconciled items, and drive timely resolution of exceptions with clear ownership and action tracking.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, ensuring adherence to close calendars, SLA timelines, and control requirements.
- Review work performed by analysts, provide technical guidance, and act as the first level of escalation for complex accounting and process-related queries.
- Develop strong understanding of retail business flows, store operations, inventory, cash, sales, and related financial impacts to effectively support business and partner teams.
- Strengthen and implement internal controls, including four-eye review, variance analysis, exception monitoring, and compliance checks to ensure a robust governance environment.
- Identify root causes of process breaks, control gaps, and recurring reconciling items; drive corrective actions and sustainable process improvements.
- Partner with internal stakeholders including business teams, controllership, operations, technology, and offshore/onshore teams to resolve issues and improve service delivery.
- Leverage ERP and digital tools, including PDI and reporting/analytics platforms, to improve process efficiency, data transparency, and decision support.
- Support audits, provide documentation for control evidence, and ensure readiness for internal and external review requirements.
- Contribute to automation, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives by finding opportunities to simplify manual tasks and enhance process resilience.
- Demonstrate strong ownership, vitality, and accountability while handling challenging priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field; professional accounting qualification or progress toward one will be an advantage.
- Relevant experience in retail accounting, financial control, record-to-report, or shared services finance operations, preferably supporting Americas or multi-geography businesses.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, period-end close, and financial reporting processes.
- Hands-on experience in identifying, investigating, and resolving accounting exceptions, reconciling items, and process issues independently.
- Prior experience working in a subject matter expert capacity or in a role involving review, guidance, or mentoring of junior team members.
- Solid understanding of retail accounting systems and ERP platforms; experience with PDI ERP will be strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret large data sets, identify trends, and translate findings into actionable insights.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and comfort working with reporting, visualization, and automation tools to improve process outcomes.
- Strong understanding of internal controls, compliance, audit readiness, and risk mitigation within finance operations.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to interact confidently across teams and geographies.
- Proven ability to work independently, handle deadlines, and maintain high accuracy in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
- Continuous improvement perspective with demonstrated ability to support transformation, standardization, and digital adoption initiatives.
Shift Timings
3:00 PM to 12:00 AM IST (may extend during month-end close from WD1 to WD5 based on business requirements).
