Dance Teacher – Job Description
Purpose of the Role
To provide quality dance education to students, promote creativity, confidence, discipline, and physical fitness through various dance forms, and prepare students for school events, competitions, assemblies, and cultural programs in alignment with CBSE's focus on holistic development and arts-integrated learning.
Key Responsibilities
Academic & Teaching Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct engaging dance classes for students across grades.
- Teach various dance forms such as Classical, Folk, Contemporary, Western, Freestyle, and Fusion styles as per the school's requirements.
- Prepare lesson plans and annual curriculum aligned with the academic calendar.
- Develop students' rhythm, coordination, posture, flexibility, expression, and stage presence.
- Integrate dance with arts-based and experiential learning activities.
- Assess and monitor students' progress and provide constructive feedback.
Event & Performance Management
- Choreograph performances for Annual Day, Sports Day, Investiture Ceremony, Assemblies, Graduation Day, and other school events.
- Train students for inter-school competitions and cultural festivals.
- Organize rehearsals and ensure smooth execution of performances.
- Coordinate costumes, props, music tracks, and stage requirements.
Student Development
- Encourage creativity, teamwork, discipline, confidence, and self-expression.
- Identify and nurture talented students.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
- Motivate students to participate actively in co-curricular activities.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain attendance records, assessment records, and performance reports.
- Participate in staff meetings, PTMs, workshops, and training programs.
- Support school initiatives and events as assigned by the management.
- Ensure proper maintenance of dance equipment, costumes, and studio resources.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Dance / Performing Arts or equivalent.
- Diploma or Certification in Classical, Contemporary, Western, or other recognized dance forms.
- B.Ed. preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years of teaching experience in a CBSE/ICSE/International School preferred.
- Experience in choreography and event management will be an added advantage.
Skills Required
- Strong choreography and performance skills.
- Excellent communication and classroom management abilities.
- Creativity and innovation in teaching methodologies.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff.
- Proficiency in music editing and performance coordination.
Working Hours
As per school timings and requirements during rehearsals, competitions, and special events.
